“The power of knowledge is the power of the state”: an informal meeting with students of the Polytechnic takes place

“Support is important in difficult times. And in our university family from the first day of the war we take special care of the staff and students. I am extremely happy to meet students both live and online! Thank you everyone who joined. This informal meeting turned out to be wonderful!

Our meeting is held due to the common desire of the students’ self-government and administration to communicate and discuss the pressing issues, which the whole country is currently facing.

Today Ukraine amazes the whole world – with its character, steadfastness, patriotism, unity. Therefore, we must also make a significant contribution to the victory of our state, primarily through quality knowledge. Quoting Nadiia Kostivna Kocherga, I want to say: “The power of knowledge is the power of the state”, so the main task of students today is to gain quality knowledge.

After a forced two-week holiday, it is the first week that the distance learning is held in asynchronous format. It was nice to hear from students their positive feedback about lecturers who show the responsible and honest attitude to classes, motivation and support of students.

I informed the students that the university plans to complete the semester according to the schedule of the educational process.

The university is proud of its graduates, who in difficult times volunteer, defend the Motherland or return to their home alma mater. So now Artem Loik is with us. As the new head of the Center for Culture and Student Creativity, he will help talented students to express themselves on the cultural front. And students’ self-government unites everyone around volunteering, helping affected universities, defenders as well as internally displaced persons.

The head of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy and a practical psychologist of the Polytechnic gave their hands-on advice to the students.

I answered the questions. I am always in touch, open to suggestions and cooperation.

Everything will be Ukraine!” – commented the Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

The meeting was also attended by the Doctor of Psychology, Head of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy, Professor Svitlana Yalanska and practical psychologist of Poltava Polytechnic Yevheniia Khomenko.

“To restore the psychological balance of lecturers and students, at the university operates a laboratory of psycho-correctional diagnostics. You can visit our wonderful laboratory, equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment, comfortable chairs, thanks to which you can achieve psychological relief. For your little brothers and sisters, lecturers have a number of methodological tools that we can use and play, as in the game children forget their fears and bad experiences. We are ready to cooperate in any format. Lecturers of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy can provide assistance at any time convenient for you.

Here are some tips: dose the perception of the information you receive, do not overload yourself with information blocks, refer only to verified information, save your sleep, try to be in the fresh air as much as possible and do not forget that each of you is a creative person. This potential is a tool that can be used for self-defense and to help others,” – accentuated scientist Svitlana Yalanska.

Practical psychologist Yevheniia Khomenko reminded that the psychological service works at the university around the clock; the section “Psychological service” on the university website has been updated, where new opportunities for overcoming fears, stress, restoring psychological balance are presented:

“There are a lot of applications from students, offline consultations are held for residents of the dorms, and we also work with internally displaced persons.

Together with the students’ self-government we are launching two new projects – group online meetings with students. You can register by following the link on the Zoom platform. We will discuss urgent issues in order to maintain your own psychological balance. The main topic of such meetings will be: how to remain effective in such conditions. Your main role right now is learning. If you feel good in this guise, other aspects of your life will be effective as well. We are open to your suggestions, do not be alone, since united we stand, together we will win!”

Student Oksana became a volunteer at the Poltava City Council and shared her thoughts:

“It is very difficult to sit at home, feel uneasy, monitor the news and worry even more about the events in Ukraine. We need to be distracted in some way and try to be useful here and now. The Poltava region is more or less calm now, so we have to help those who are less fortunate than us. Therefore, get involved in volunteering, help territorial defense, perhaps the Armed Forces of Ukraine, cyber-assistance is of great importance too.”

“It is in the circle of friends and relatives that this situation is perceived more easily. It is worth noting that the support of foreign universities is also strongly felt in this situation. Students write and are interested in what they can help us with. Of course, it’s hard to smile, but when we work, communicate within these walls, it becomes psychologically easier. We follow the news, establish social communication, study,” – added the Head of the Trade Union Committee of Students and Postgraduates of Poltava Polytechnic Oleksandr Drobotia.

“I support your opinion that students are the rear that our Ukraine will need tomorrow. Thank you for supporting our mental and emotional health, it is very important for the student youth. We thank the administration for their attention and support of our initiatives. We spend a lot of time together, generating and implementing new ideas. On behalf of all students, I would like to thank our lecturers for their support, responsibility, as in times of anxiety and uncertainty, it is important to see the eyes and smile of your lecturer. This is extremely supportive and motivating for the future,” – thanked the President of the Student Parliament of Poltava Polytechnic Liudmyla Bylym.

The head of the Center for Culture and Student Creativity Artem Loik announced the preparation of an art project with students of creative specialties, the organization of an exhibition after the victory, and called for full participation, join the activities of student body of the Polytechnic community to learn where you can be useful and do your best for the common cause.
