Three Students Win at a Research Competition on the Specialization “Construction and Civil Engineering”

Students of Educational and Scientific Institute of Architecture and Construction (ESIAC) have taken two winner places at the All-Ukrainian Student Research Competition on the specialization “Construction and Civil Engineering”.

Three Students Win at a Research Competition on the Specialization “Construction and Civil Engineering”

The Competition was held at Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture. Authors of two research articles became winners.

The second-grade diploma has been given to Tetiana Sovenko and Kateryna Kostromitska, students of group 401-A of ESIAC. Their research is called “Improved joints in slab cast over precast joists in the roofs of buildings for affordable housing”, the academic advisor is Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Senior Staff Scientist, Associate Professor at the Department of Reinforced Steel and Stone Constructions and Strength of Materials Volodymyr Pohribnyi). The authors have developed a dimensional planning and constructive option for a 25-floor building with slab cast over precast joists, offered improvements for beam-slab joints, suggested a methodology for spline joint calculation based on variation method in the theory of concrete plasticity. Conclusions have been drawn on the perspectives of using modernized slab cast over precast construction system with smooth ceilings and introducing it to Ukraine’s construction industry, solving the problem of affordable housing, and also using the variation method in the theory of concrete plasticity and calculation of spline joints.

The third-grade diploma has been given to Kateryna Andriiets, a student of group 401-BP of ESIAC. Her article is called “Research of stress-strain behaviour of reinforced concrete constructions which operate with complicated strains”, the academic advisor is Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Reinforced Steel and Stone Constructions and Strength of Materials Olha Harkova. The student has developed a methodology of curved reinforced concrete beam durability calculation, which unlike the existing ones does not contain complicated mathematical equations and formulas, and allows performing the calculation without applying numerous methods. To demonstrate the practical solving of engineering problems in designing process, problems on calculating durability in normal sectioning of studied curved reinforced concrete beams have been solved. The computer modelling have been performed to detect locations with stress concentration and allow to follow the change of neutral line location in the loading process.

Congratulations to the winners and their academic advisors, we wish you new achievements!
