German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit) is the national day in Germany, celebrated on October 3 and is a day off. On this day in 1990, the unification of the two German republics into the single Federal Republic of Germany took place. It is one of the nine national holidays in Germany, which are celebrated in all states.

On September 26, on the eve of this year's German Unity Day, at the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation – Doctor of Philology, Professor Tetiana Kushnirova and Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Anna Pavelieva held an exciting cognitive game "What? Students-translators of the Poltava Polytechnic, students of the Poltava Scientific Lyceum No. 3 under the guidance of the German language teacher Chernoruk A.O., and representatives of the public organization "Poltava Society of Germans "Widergeburt", who demonstrated excellent knowledge in the field of linguistics and customs of German-speaking countries, became active participants in intellectual confrontations.

Translation students and high school students learned more about the history of Germany from ancient times to the present day and recalled interesting facts about the country's culture and traditions.

A student of the 201-FF group Iryna Kroshko thoroughly told about the stages of Germany's formation as a leading European state, emphasizing that Germany experienced many tragic events during the 20th century, the memory of which is still cherished by every German.

The participants of the intellectual game demonstrated logical thinking skills, gave specific answers to complex questions. The theme of this year's game was traditions and customs of German-speaking countries, interesting facts from history, culture and literature, events from the lives of prominent Germans.

"For the third year in a row, together with translation students, we have been celebrating the German Unity Day. It is pleasant that our events are eagerly attended by young students who actively study foreign languages, are interested in European customs and traditions, and work hard to broaden their own cultural horizons. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, the participants recalled interesting facts about German history and art, learned to work harmoniously in a team," – commented Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Tetiana Kushnirova.

According to the results of the game, the team of students of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3, which answered the most questions, became the winner. Students of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the Poltava Polytechnic took second place, and the team of the public organization "Poltava Society of Germans "Widergeburt" was on the third step of the intellectual Olympus.

All eleven teams that participated in the intellectual game enjoyed friendly communication, gained new pleasant experiences and were awarded symbolic prizes.

The event was held with the comprehensive support and assistance of the public organization "Poltava Society of Germans "Widergeburt".
