Every year in May, on the occasion of the Europe Days in Ukraine, the Department of International Economic Relations and Tourism of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” hosts a number of scientific, educational and outreach events.
On 16 May, within the framework of Euroclub, students and academic staff of Poltava Polytechnic had the opportunity to take part in the brain-ring “Ukraine-EU: known and unknown”, where they learned a lot about the European Union and the European integration of Ukraine.
Students majoring in 292 International Economic Relations, 242 Tourism and Recreation and 035 Philology took part in the intellectual competition, forming the teams “Ç’est la vie: Chronicles of Croissants”, “Galloping across Europe” and “Olympiologists” teams.
The event was moderated by the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations and Tourism, Doctor of Economics, Professor Iryna Chychkalo-Kondratska.
The participants were evaluated by a highly professional jury consisting of the Deputy Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Volodymyr Byba, President of the Student Parliament Valerii Levchenko and Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of Students and Postgraduates Andrii Kasian.
During the two competitive rounds “Question and Answer” and “Mini-presentation of an EU country”, the participating teams fiercely competed for victory in the intellectual confrontation.
In the first round, the teams demonstrated their knowledge of the history of the creation and development of the European Union, the activities of its institutions, and the process of Ukraine’s European integration.
The second round challenged the students to use their theoretical knowledge and creativity in expressing their own views on the modern life of the EU countries. During the mini-presentations of the EU countries, the teams demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the history, economy, politics, social and cultural life of such countries as France, Romania and Greece.
The audience watched the teams’ colourful presentations with enthusiasm, as each team tried to convey the flavour of the chosen country through poetry, pantomime, music, interesting tourist locations, cuisine, etc.
According to the jury members, all the teams perfectly revealed not only their knowledge of the European Union, the European integration process, and cooperation with Ukraine, but also demonstrated creative approaches to the presentation of EU countries, including culinary preferences, by cooking their national cuisine.
Friendship won out in the two rounds – all three teams demonstrated good knowledge, team spirit, creativity and the ability to work together.
Earlier, the students’ club members travelled to little-known tourist locations in the country, discussed the International Women’s Day around the world, and the students’ club members held a meeting dedicated to the most romantic holiday of the year.
