University honors the victims of the Second World War

267 students, teachers and employees of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” fought on the fronts of the Second World War. The names of those who died in battles, from wounds and found eternal peace thousands of kilometers from Poltava are engraved on the university memorial.

Students in the evacuation (in Kazakhstan) continued their studies, and after classes they helped take care of the wounded in the hospital, cleared snowdrifts, collected warm things from the population, prepared gifts for the wounded, and took part in amateur artistic performances. During the years of evacuation and the war of 1941-1945, the institute trained more than 2,000 civil engineers, most of whom were sent to the active army. On October 19, 1943, after the liberation of Poltava, teachers and students returned to their hometown. With the efforts and hands of the collective, the complete restoration of the central building was completed in 1955.

“We gratefully remember the teachers, employees and students of our university who died on the battlefield of the Second World War, all veterans who returned and passed away at an advanced age, we express our deep respect to all heroes of the Ukrainian people.

Every loss hurts and the most unfortunate thing is that since 2014 the best sons and daughters of Ukraine have been dying again. Such is the succession of generations of heroes who stand up to protect the Motherland from the enemy who seeks our physical destruction. So, we honor every defender and defendresse, thanks to whom we wake up and see a new day, dream about the future.

As in the years of the Second World War, Ukraine is fighting an insidious aggressor. Today it is Putin’s russia, a new inhumane regime based on imperial nationalism and fascism, which encroaches on our independence and territorial integrity, tries to destroy the international security system and threatens peace in all of Europe. This struggle continues every day – and we have no right to lose, since for us it is a war for freedom, civilization, democracy and European values against the imperial ambitions of an aggressive criminal neighbor. They turned the memory of the victory over Nazism into propaganda for a new war by producing statements, including those of an anti-scientific nature. It is sad to state that the unlearned lessons of history, self-indulgence and imperial ambitions have turned modern russians from the heirs of the victory over Nazism into new Nazis.

The strength of our Armed Forces of Ukraine is a guarantee of the existence of the state and the preservation of human rights for citizens. The history of the Second World War teaches us that the Ukrainian people win when we are united, consolidated, act together and protect what is dear to us. When we are together, when we feel that justice is on our side and stand for our land, then we are invincible. As in the middle of the last century, we defend our land and our Motherland from the aggressor-occupier, which gives us additional strength and the right to bold resistance.

We remember. We will win.

Glory to Ukraine!” – said the rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

A moment of silence was held for the fallen Heroes of our time – a graduate of the electromechanical faculty, a soldier of the “Azov” regiment Dmytro Koriak and a student of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management, a grenade launcher of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians Maksym Khitailov.
