University students explore the origins of the famous writer’s work by visiting the National Museum-Reserve of Mykola Gogol

Students majoring in 035 Philology and 014 Secondary Education of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic together with Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Tetiana Kushnirova were inspired by the unforgettable atmosphere and explored the origins of the famous writer’s work by visiting a theatrical evening excursion at the National Museum-Reserve of Mykola Gogol.

It should be noted that earlier, as part of the study of literary studies, the first-fifth year students of specialities 035 Philology and 014 Secondary Education of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” held a series of visiting lectures dedicated to the Ukrainian past, traditions of that time, as well as the discussion of Ukrainian and foreign literary masterpieces.

The future specialists got acquainted with local lore and immersed themselves in the history of their native land by visiting the iconic locations of the Poltava region. The inspiration for this format of educational activities, which harmoniously combines cultural, literary and aesthetic components and allows students to get acquainted with the glorious national heritage, was traditionally brought by Doctor of Philology, Professor Tetiana Kushnirova, the scientist of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic.

Recently, the academic staff and students majoring in 035 Philology and 014 Secondary Education of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” visited the National Museum-Reserve of M.V. Gogol, where they got acquainted with the museum exposition and took part in a theatrical evening excursion.

According to the guide, the National Museum-Reserve of M.V. Gogol is one of the most tourist-attractive places in Ukraine. Among the unique Ukrainian nature there is a one-storey house with four wooden columns and a small outbuilding next to it.

“Here, in the former Vasylivka (now the village of Hoholeve), Mykola Gogol lived, and in this picturesque place he spent his childhood and youth. Here he discovered a world full of touching, sad and funny legends, poetic fantasy,” – explained the museum employee.

During the intense excursion programme, students of Poltava Polytechnic touched the deepest parts of Mykola Gogol’s life, visited his family home, where they were welcomed by the writer’s constant “mother” Mariia Ivanivna Gogol-Yanovska, visited the outbuilding where Mykola Gogol used to live, listened to the story of the Red Jacket, walked through the night garden, enjoying the magic of the Ukrainian night.

The students and academic staff of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the National Museum-Reserve of M.V. Gogol and personally to the museum director Lidiia Yenko for the interesting and informative tour of the locations that were significant for the works of the famous countryman, the opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of Gogol’s immortal works, and invite everyone to join the scientific and educational cooperation.

Earlier, Polytechnic students were inspired by the atmosphere of the Ukrainian past when they visited the famous Gogol places.

Recently, an exhibition “Afflated Flight” was opened at the Centre for Contemporary Art.
