On the occasion of the birthday of the famous writer Mykola Gogol, the members of the literary studio “To the Origins” of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” took part in the literary interactive quest “Unravelling the Mystery of Gogol”. Under the guidance of the head of the studio, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Nataliia Bondar, talented students who are fond of the artistic word once again flipped through the pages of the life of the famous mystic writer, searched for symbols in the coded names of the characters using Morse code and played literary games outdoors.
During contests and various tasks, the young people actively competed for the title of the best connoisseur of Gogol’s works, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of intertwining mystical and real motifs, playing with Gogol’s “Puzatyi Patsiuk (eng. pot-bellied rat)” (a metaphorical name for a spoon), as well as searching for magic codes and symbols. The students deciphered the names of the characters in Gogol’s imperishable works using the world-famous Morse code, and the symbolic weaving of a wreath for the charming Oksana evoked positive emotions and confirmed the right idea that the Poltava land is really rich in talents.
“Undoubtedly, the land that gave birth to Mykola Gogol, shrouded in ancient legends, mystical stories and beliefs, inspires the younger generation to new creative achievements. We are glad that, despite the war, our students are constantly generating creative ideas, creating on their own as well as being inspired by words, scientific thought and art.
The example of glorious predecessors and contemporaries becomes a guiding light for young people to the world of fiction and literature, forming a sense of pride and personal involvement in the cultural heritage of our unbreakable nation,” – commented the head of Literary Studio “To the Origins” of Poltava Polytechnic Nataliia Bondar.
Recently, the members of the literary studio “To the Origins” presented a mini-performance dedicated to the life and work of Taras Shevchenko and a German-language performance dedicated to the International Mother Language Day.
It should be recalled that on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, students of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic recited the poet’s poetry in European languages as a part of a flash mob as well as held a scientific and artistic round table “Shevchenko in the Linguistic and Cultural Space of Germany”.
Earlier, during the meetings of the “Philology” scientific club, the future translators explored the chronotopic coordinates of Mykola Gogol’s story “May Night, or the Drowned Maiden”, studied the translations of phraseological units in Mykola Gogol’s story “Evening on the Eve of Ivan Kupala”, and analysed Mykola Gogol’s story “Terrible Vengeance” as well as explored ways of translating it.
