“Building up educational and business cooperation is a guarantee of the oil and gas industry and energy field development” - Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko

Thanks to his continuous aspiration for innovations in education and synchronization with the needs of business crucial for the country’s economics, the university has become a respected international educative-scientific and intellectual-cultural centre, a leader at the education market. The ultramodern university with many years of educative and scientific traditions is especially valuable for employers. The cooperation with oil and gas business has demonstrated great efficiency. Volodymyr Onyshchenko says, that as for today, the main need is the quality education of specialists, and modern universities play a special role in the strategy of ensuring Ukraine’s energy self-sufficiency.

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is developing dynamically; the university witnesses the same changes as the society does. Last year in December, a re-branding took place, when the university evolved into a classical higher education institution and updated its name to ‘National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”’. The new page for the higher education institution which harmoniously combines 200-year educational traditions, 90 years of scientific experience with modern innovations, was opened publicly and ceremonially. The presentation gathered the members of the Supervisory and the Academic Boards, the members of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, rectors and scientists of leading higher education institutions, representatives of local and student governments, national and regional mass media in the university’s Contemporary Art Centre.

“We are introducing modern trends and approaches in teaching, there are eight structural divisions functioning effectively at university; more then 6,000 students are studying here and among them 500 are international students,” said Rector. “University successfully joins the world’s education system, is a member of the Magna Charta Universitatum, extends the geography of the international partners whose number is approximately one hundred already. Unique academic exchange programs with universities abroad, international internships, studying in English (we are one of the first universities to introduce teaching Engineering students in English), the possibility to receive a double diploma (of our university and of a university in Poland, Germany or the United Kingdom) and the most modern facilities in Poltava region are all available for our students. And I am proud of our graduates, as prestigious companies are hunting after them. Recruiting sessions are held at our university regularly. We are training high-qualified and successful specialists. They are responsible for our future - the economic development of our country. I am thankful to the representatives of the business that invests in education, in new employees of their companies. This is a great indication of trust and quality.”

One of the cooperation forms is the traditional International Industry Forums. Top-managers of the main oil and gas industry players of Ukraine and leading international companies have gathered for the fifth time at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. It took a few years from the appearance of an idea to create such a professional community to its successful realization. Every forum is distinguished by great outcome both for the business and for the university.

“This testifies that we have managed to bring the idea into life; the university has become a place for communication between education, science, government and business. First of all, it’s important to show that the university is a platform for efficient conversation between the industry representatives,” added Rector.

The development of facilities and resources and creating right conditions to train specialists that will not need to be re-taught later is of special priority. In general, the university has attracted investments from leading international companies over the past few years. With the support of the leading oil and gas companies Shlumberger and Ukrgasvydobyvannya, a 3D-modelling laboratory has been opened. In accordance with the memorandum with Shlumberger, the Petrel, Eclipse and Techlog software totaling to EUR 1.1 mil in cost has been installed. DTEK - Oil and Gas and Geosynthesis Engeineering have invested UAH 3 mil for creating a scientific and practical laboratory of muds and cleansing solutions. The laboratory is certified according to the requirements of DSTU (State Standards of Ukraine) ISO 10012 to hold scientific researches for companies and organizations. Together with Siemens Ukraine, a unique ultramodern digital technology laboratory has been established and is now the best one in Ukraine, costing millions of hryvnias.

The 5th International Industry Forum was not an exception. At this year’s forum, Rector of the university Volodymyr Onyshchenko together with the Director of Wellsite Digital Ltd Ihor Vitryk opened a training center for education and certification of oil and gas specialists according to the IWCF standards. It is quipped with modern simulators, such as DrillSim:50 and DrillSim:Educator, from the world-famous producer Drilling Systems. This grandiose project was realized over an incredibly short term; it took three months of hard daily work to bring this idea into life.

“Together with our business partners, we react quickly to the challenges of our time, the needs of business and society. By creating new laboratories and educational centers we make another step towards joining the efforts of education and business to train specialists with high professional skills. This is a possibility to teach and train specialists, prepared for work with modern technologies. At the same time, university, as a powerful innovation center, has sufficient resources and enough possibilities for training and further education not only of students but also of teachers, industry employees, and for providing services to leading oil and gas production companies. This is going to contribute in the petroleum and energy complex development and in the increase of energy self-sufficiency level of Ukraine,” commented Volodymyr Onyshchenko. “We are always ready to support innovative ideas, which make for education and business development. For example, we support the idea of CEO of DTEK - Oil and Gas Ihor Shchurov on creating a powerful oil and gas hub where on a regular basis new tendencies of industry development, innovative technologies, international start-ups and experts of international oil and gas market would gather. That is, we would like to create an effective instrument for introducing new technologies in Ukraine and to establish a space for solving difficult cases of oil and gas companies for enhancing the natural gas production.”

According to Volodymyr Onyshchenko, the university is ready to become a participant of such a hub and other projects, and is open to cooperation. Building up educational and business cooperation is a guarantee for oil and gas industry and energy field development.
