The seminar was held at the digital drilling simulation laboratory by First-Category Technology Engineer of Ukrnaftagasservis Company, Specialist of the Wellsite Digital Training Center for Education and Certification of Oil and Gas Industry Specialists of Yuri Kondratyuk National University Oleksandr Kukharets.
Virtual reality in the modern training center is used to imitate real drillers’ work conditions. It is even possible to try working at an offshore drilling platform there. Specialists are taught and certified in accordance with IWCF (International Well Control Forum) standards. To get this knowledge, skills and certificate before the opening of this laboratory, the specialists would have to go to Aberdeen (Scotland), Texas (the USA) or even to the United Arab Emirates.
“It is interesting both for students and those who have only started their career and for specialists who are in the industry for a long time, because the standards and the job market keep changing,” the lecturer said.
After the lockdown, when the theoretical part of the course will be learned, the hearers will start practicing at the drilling simulators. There are drilling simulators by the Drilling Systems company installed in the laboratory. Thanks to them, with no risk for health and life, with no ecological hazards, nor huge financial expenses, the specialists of oil and gas, drilling, and petroleum service companies will practice their skills at modern units and learn to act properly during an emergency.
The course will finish with an online-examination in English. Certification will be performed by IWCF. The participant will receive a certificate after successfully passing the exam, and it is valid from two to five years depending on the exam level.
The Training Center for Education and Certification of Oil and Gas Industry Specialists in Accordance with IWCF Standards was officially opened in March, 2020, thanks to the cooperation of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” with the Wellsite Digital Company. It is equipped with modern simulators from the worldwide known producer Drilling Systems.
Director of Wellsite Digital Ihor Vitryk presented the possibilities of the laboratory with British equipment and Aberdeen Center education standards. The university was not chosen as a partner randomly; it trains the best industry specialists and effectively cooperates with business.
Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko emphasized that, for the university, it is a place to train high-qualified specialist who will not need to be re-taught. For youth, this is yet another possibility to learn from professionals with practical experience, try themselves in the conditions as close as possible to those of real life work, and decide on their future career direction.
