"Representatives of the country's educational institutions consider the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine unacceptable and condemn the military attack on a free, independent, democratic and sovereign state," – said Serhii Shkarlet.
In particular, the University of Tartu is actively involved in psychological support of Ukrainian employees and students, and has created a special scholarship fund to raise funds for students’ education.
Among other activities, the university plans to allow Ukrainian students to study at the university without tuition fees and provide an opportunity to apply for financial support. An overview of what is planned and what has already been adopted:
- the university plans to allow Ukrainian students to study without tuition fees for the spring semester;
- the university will ask the Ministry of Education and Science to review the requirements for assistance to Ukrainian students as needed. The Senate will create an opportunity for Ukrainian students to apply for needs assistance in 2022;
- the university has established a scholarship fund to collect and send donations to support the education of Ukrainian students at the University of Tartu. We invite the entire university family to make donations to the scholarship fund of the University of Tartu for Ukrainian students and share information about the fund. Ukrainian students can apply for a scholarship until March 15, 2022;
- Estonian universities have decided to stop cooperation with Russian and Belarusian universities. The decision concerns institutional cooperation between universities. The Office for International Cooperation and Protocol will collect information on current cooperation projects and organize informing partner universities.

In addition, there is already a website where information for university members is constantly updated during the military attack on Ukraine.
Tallinn University students are currently forming a group of volunteers to raise charitable contributions for humanitarian aid to Ukrainian students, and the university provides study opportunities in various programs.
It should be recalled that Ukraine has started receiving support from the countries of the European Higher Education Area.
