Exhibition of Children’s Works In One of The Most Difficult Techniques Opened

On the International Children’s Day, the exhibition “Children’s Prints” was opened with more than 70 works made with printing by the students of the art-studio “Artist”. The head of the studio is the Member of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine, the graduate of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” (2003) Yurii Bernatskyi.

“For the first time, the exhibition of our art-studio is held in an unusual form for us. Holding an online exhibition is an interesting experience. Such a form, I think, does not decrease the viewer’s interest in the presented works in the slightest. I am thankful to the university for cooperating with us, finding time and resources to ensure that a lot of Poltava citizens will see the exhibition, which is the result of our creative experiments. Hopefully after the lockdown parents and children of the city will have the possibility to see the works in the real life, meet the ancient, one of the most difficult techniques, and even try themselves in this kind of art,” Yurii Bernatskyi said.

The exhibition opening was visited by the Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, the Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs of the university Svitlana Sivitska, directors of the education and research institutes, deans of the faculties and the academic staff.

“The popularization of children’s art, the support and development of talented youth are part of the priorities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. Our task is to create decent conditions for children’s harmonious development and creative activity. Support is a crucial element of the development of a successful personality. The Contemporary Art Center is an art space for exhibitions, workshops and various art events of students, graduates of our university, famous artists from Poltava, honored masters and young talents. The children’s exhibition opening on the International Children’s Day is our gift for the students of the art-studio and a reminder for the society that we have very talented children and there is real support of children’s creative activity. And I will be happy to see the young artists as students at our creative specialties - our university is among the few in Ukraine to provide deep knowledge and great opportunities for self-development,” Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko said.

The visitors are welcome to join the exhibition both online and offline. “The Contemporary Art Center is a cultural center of our higher education institution. The exhibitions here are always updated, new art styles and techniques are presented,” the Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Svitlana Sivitska commented.

“Greetings to everybody who joined this special art event! Congratulations to the young artists on the International Children’s Day! I am glad to begin the summer-2020 with a very interesting children’s exhibition. So congratulations to the authors and the head of the art-studio, as well as to all the visitors at the opening of the exhibition “Children’s Prints”. The doors of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and in particular the Education and Research Institute of Architecture and Construction are always open for you! I wish you to enjoy and get inspired by the art, and everyone who wants to make art their profession is welcome to our university!” the Director of the Education and Research Institute of Architecture and Construction, PhD in Engineering Oleksandr Zyma said.

The head of the art-studio Yurii Bernatskyi shared his experience of working with students, “The first steps in printing are made by children from six years old, although I have the experience of teaching a child from kindergarten. That is an exception, not a general rule. The materials used for printing with the youngest ones vary, we can use paper, cardboard, wallpapers. The main thing here is the texture so that the print gets a certain meaning and look. With the older children we use monotyping - putting the image on plastic or other surface. From 11-12 years old, we can try the dry point (or “dry needle”) technique. Some of my colleagues believed that the printing is long forgotten and lost in the past. It was great to hear good impressions of professionals here, so the appreciation of young students’ talents is not just my personal opinion on these works.”

“We often speak of the genetic memory, but it all depends on our understanding of the children’s psychology. That’s why you can understand the children whom you teach to understand art a little bit better than others, you can see the world with their eyes,” the moderator of the event, member of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine and the International Art Critics Association in Paris, PhD in Art Studies, the Head of the Department of Fine Arts of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Tetiana Zinenko commented.

The exhibition “Children’s Prints” will be shown at the Contemporary Art Center of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” from June to August. Everyone interested can visit it and enjoy the world of children’s art.

“The influence of art on a person’s mindset is proved by psychologists. When a person does dancing, studies mathematics or draws, associative connections are built in the brain cortex, language, movement and nerve centers are operating, the person is in physical and spiritual harmony,” the Dean of the Faculty of Sports, PhD in Pedagogy Nataliia Beseda shared her impressions of the exhibition.

The exhibition is open for visitors and free of charge with required registration: +38(093) 454 90 44, Tetiana
