Psychologists and practical experts discuss manifestations of resilience in the family, education and society during the war

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” hosted the Second International Scientific and Practical Conference “Manifestations of Resilience at Different Levels of the System: Family, Education, Society in Time of War”. Scientists from leading Ukrainian and foreign universities and practitioners discussed the psychological peculiarities of manifesting and developing resilience under martial law and shared their own experience.

On 23-24 May, 2024, at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, the academic staff of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy held the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Manifestations of Resilience at Different Levels of the System: Family, Education, Society during the War”. 

The co-organisers of the large-scale scientific and educational event were powerful Ukrainian and foreign scientific, scientific and pedagogical institutions, leading universities - the Pedagogical University named after the National Education Commission in Krakow, Institute of Neuropsychotherapy (Vienna, Austria), Transylvanian University of Brasov (Romania), Centre for Systemic Counselling, Treatment and Psychotherapy ZSB (Austria), Toom Pargi Mental Health Centre (Tallinn, Estonia), Santa Fe College (USA), Free University of Brussels (Belgium), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, National Technical University “Dnipro Polytechnic”, Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University, Main Department of the National Police in Poltava Region, Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava Region, Patrol Police Department in Poltava Region, Mental Health Centre of the Municipal Enterprise “Regional Institution for Psychiatric Care of Poltava Regional Council”, Charity Organisation ”Light of Hope”, Gender Centre of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. 

The II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Manifestations of Resilience at Different Levels of the System: Family, Education, Society during the War” was opened by Deputy Dean of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department Iryna Denysovets, who wished the participants productive professional communication and successful presentations. 

“We sincerely welcome the distinguished participants of this powerful international conference and are pleased that such a significant psychological and pedagogical component of higher education is in demand and successfully functions within the walls of a classical university. The Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy has a powerful department whose scholars are ready to share their experience and best practices with students on a regular basis. 

The conference is devoted to the most pressing issues and problems that are essential for our collective consciousness, so we are extremely pleased that such a huge number of respected scientists will interact, discuss, share their achievements and practical experience, because psychologists are actually doctors of human souls and your profession is extremely necessary. University of the National Education Commission in Krakow (Poland), Kyiv National University of Technology and Design (Ukraine), Christian NILSON, Senior Legal Advisor, Swedish Patent Office, Stockholm, Sweden, Kateryna Bondar,  Candidate in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of Practical Psychology, Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University, Natalia Suprunenko, Head of the Mental Health Centre, Municipal Enterprise “Regional Mental Health Care Institution of the Poltava Regional Council”, Nataliia Pikanova, PhD, Director of Mister Leader Global LLC, Antonina Sydorenko, PhD, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy of Poltava State Medical University, Oksana Tur, PhD, prof, Professor of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Taras Nesterenko, Coordinator of the Psychological Service at Mental Hub, Anastasiia Tverdostup, student of group 301-FP, Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. Consecutive English translation was provided by students of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. 

The speakers and participants of the conference discussed various aspects of resilience as a basic competence of a modern person and the peculiarities of mental health development - in the educational process, in preschool institutions, in work with war veterans and victims of russian aggression. 

Yuliia Falieieva, Head of the Support Centre of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava Oblast, Tetiana Horoshko , Head of the Centre for Practical Psychology and Social Work of the Poltava Interschool Resource Centre of the Poltava City Council, and Diana Dovgopol, Methodologist of the Centre for Practical Psychology and Social Work of the Poltava Interschool Resource Centre of the Poltava City Council, Oleksandra Atakhadzhayeva , a police captain and psychologist at the Psychological Support Department of the Human Resources Department of the Poltava  Region National Police, joined the discussion and shared their practical experience with the audience. 

During the discussion, the conference participants also shared successful cases of working with different categories of people and tried to develop a unified algorithm for developing resilience, based on domestic and foreign experience. 

As part of the Second International Scientific and Practical Conference “Manifestations of Resilience at Different Levels of the System: Family, Education, Society in Time of War”, the participants worked in four sections: 

  • Section 1: Psychological peculiarities of manifestation and development of resilience under martial law. Moderator: Kira Sedykh, Professor of Psychology and Pedagogy, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Psychology, Professor; 
  • Section 2. Mental health as a global challenge of the present and the future. Moderator: Yevheniia Khomenko, Head of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”,  Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences; 
  • Section 3: Mental and psychological disorders during the war: treatment and rehabilitation. Moderator: Viktoriia Shevchuk, Associate Professor of Psychology and Pedagogy, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences in Psychology, Associate Professor; 
  • Section 4. Priority scientific developments in the field of psychology and pedagogy. Moderator: Oksana Tur, Professor of Psychology and Pedagogy at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor. 

On 24 May, as part of the international scientific and practical conference, master classes and training sessions were held, in particular, Anastasiia Tverdostup, a specialist of the Psychological Service, conducted training sessions on team building for freshmen majoring in 053 Psychology. 

Alona Stetsovych, a practical psychologist at Mental HUB, held a master class on emotional relief for bachelor's and master's degree students majoring in 053 Psychology, and Salvatore Giacomuzzi, Doctor of Psychology, psychotherapist, Austrian professor of psychology, gave a guest lecture on Psychology of the XXI Century. 

The academic staff of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” expresses their gratitude to the national and foreign partner universities and specialists for the useful exchange of ideas, practical cases and developments in the field of psychological science and invites them to further scientific and educational cooperation.

Earlier, a scientist from Poltava Polytechnic gave a series of lectures on building resilience and preserving mental health, psychology students successfully mastered the skills of working with minors at the Training and Diagnostic Centre for Psychological Expertise, and a training on increasing psychological resilience was held at the university for police officers, rescuers and teachers.
