Future architects shared their impressions of participating in the ICAMES 2024 conference in Istanbul

From 6 to 12 May 2024, the 28th International Conference ICAMES 2024 (International Cultural and Academic Meeting of Engineering Students) was held in the Turkish capital Istanbul, during which more than 80 scientists from fourteen countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America shared their own experience in the field of engineering education “Renewable Energy”. During the conference, university and college students presented their own projects in English.

The third-year students of the speciality 191 Architecture and Urban Construction  at the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Maryna Makukha and Sofiia Hrosheva and the students of Poltava Oil and Gas College Ihor Skliar, Dmytro Kulichkovskyi and Bohdan Lutchenko, together with the college teacher Liudmyla Firsunina, took part in interesting events and discussions.

After returning to Poltava Polytechnic, the students shared their impressions of the large-scale event.

Sophiia Hrosheva a student of group 301-A, speciality 191 Architecture and Urban Construction, says:

“In my opinion, ICAMES is the best mobility that could have happened to me! First of all, we spent a whole week in Istanbul, which combined development, knowledge exchange, learning about new cultures and meaningful entertainment.

In the first days of the programme, we had the opportunity to present our own report on renewable energy in Ukraine, as well as learn about innovations and start-ups from students from almost all over the world. Every day we had themed events and parties, such as Campus Day on the university campus, a BBQ party at an incredible country villa, a yacht party on the Bosphorus, a tour of the historic part of the city, and, of course, a cultural party. Each of these events gave us the opportunity to share our own experiences and culture, as well as to learn and adopt many interesting things from other international students. Every minute was filled with something fun, interesting and new, and I didn't want to miss a single one, because these are memories that will last a lifetime. I am extremely glad that I had the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful mobility programme in the heart of Turkey!”

Maryna Makukha, a student of group 301-A, speciality 191 Architecture and Urban Construction, adds:

“Unfortunately, we missed the first day of the programme, the opening ceremony, due to a delay at the border, and immediately went to check in. We stayed in a hostel with other programme participants from other countries. The living conditions were 10/10.

The next day, the selection stage of the projects began. A total of 15 teams from different parts of the world were represented. Each team presented their project in the form of a poster and briefly described the topic and developments at  Bosphorus University .

The university territory itself is very large. The combination of historic buildings, modern campuses and natural landscapes is impressive. An open day was organised for the programme participants - Campus Day, during which trampolines, rides and many other interesting activities were placed on the open lawn.

In general, the competition part of the trip went quite quickly, as it lasted just 3 days, after which the winners were determined.

The most memorable part of the trip was the eventful cultural programme. We were shown the largest mosques in Istanbul, the participants visited the Grand Bazaar together, sailed on a yacht on the Bosphorus, and walked along the waterfront.

On the last night, we visited a Turkish restaurant with authentic drinks, food and appropriate music. The Cultural Party was a very memorable event. Each team had the opportunity to present national delicacies, clothes and traditions of their country. Our team was dressed in vyshyvankas and treated guests to national drinks.

In general, I am incredibly impressed with the Turkish flavour, because I had the opportunity to get acquainted with the culture and traditions of Turkey, develop my knowledge in the field of engineering and find many new friends from different parts of the world!”

It should be recalled that earlier, architectural students Sofiia Hrosheva and Maryna Makukha took part in the hackathon by joining the distance component of the mobility programme at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in Latvia and became participants of the Erasmus+ KA171 physical academic mobility at Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences. Subsequently, the students told about their participation in the WOOD TECHNOLOGY HACKATHON, which took place on 22-26 February 2024 at the leading Latvian partner university.

Also, students of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law of Poltava Polytechnic Nadiia Kubrak, Anzhelika Didechkina and Dana Sholokh talked about the peculiarities of studying under the Erasmus+ credit academic mobility program at the University of Applied Sciences FACHHOCHSCHULE BURGENLAND in Eisenstadt.

Earlier, three female students of Polytechnic became participants of the grant programme “Study Tours to Poland” in Wroclaw, 2 female students of Polytechnic studied the principles of volunteering within the Polish grant programme “Study Tours to Poland” in Warsaw.
