Future Physiotherapists Learn About the Activity of Inclusive Centers

On September 29, the teachers of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” held a virtual tour around the Education and Rehabilitation Center “Sunflower” and “The Inclusive Resource Center” of Dikanka Raion Council, and presented a student book of inclusive education.

The joined online event was held by the Psychology and Pedagogy Department of the Faculty of Sports of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the specialists of Education and Rehabilitation Center “Sunflower” and “The Inclusive Resource Center” of Dikanka Raion Council within the cooperation between the university and the inclusive education establishments.

The discussion of the problems of the inclusive education development in Poltava region and the peculiarities of working with special education was joined by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sports, International Class Master of Sport of Ukraine Oksana Hordiienko, the academic faculty of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department (Doctor of Psychology, Professor, Deputy Head of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department Svitlana Yalanska, Doctor of Pedagogy, Associate Professor Nataliia Saiko, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor Nina Atamanchuk, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor Yurii Horbenko, PhD in Psychology Lesia Klevaka, Senior Department Assistant Oleksandr Kornilov), the Psychologist of our university Victoriia Datsenko and the students of the specialization No. 227 Physiotherapy, Ergotherapy.

The Deputy Head of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department Svitlana Yalanska presented “The Inclusive Education Teacher Training Curriculum”, a student book, written by the teachers of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” with the authors from the establishments of the Ukrainian National Inclusive Education Consortium. The edition was published with the support of the Press, Education and Culture Department of the Embassy of the USA in Ukraine.

“We hope that the curriculum will help the specialists in their complicated work, orient them in creating a favorable inclusive environment. As of today, inclusiveness is one of the most important fields of activity for psychologists and teachers,” Doctor of Psychology, Professor, Deputy Head of the Psychology and Pedagogy Department Svitlana Yalanska said.

The teacher and speech therapist of “The Inclusive Resource Center” of Dikanka Raion Council Oksana Berkuta presented the fields and the peculiarities of the center’s activity and spoke about the organization of rehabilitation in the development of the child’s sensory and communicative activity, the formation of spatial orientation and everyday skills.

The Director of the Education and Rehabilitation Center “Sunflower” Elvira Popova delivered a presentation about the methods of working with children: “Kinesitherapy and adaptive physical training take a special place in rehabilitation at our center. Children do various exercises in classes to help decrease muscle spasms, improve joint flexibility, correct their musculo-skeletal system.”

It’s important to note that the students of the specialization No. 227 Physiotherapy, Ergotherapy of the Faculty of Sports regularly do internships at the rehabilitation center and have already proved themselves highly-qualified specialists.

The participants of the event exchanged their experience in organizing the rehabilitation process in inclusive environment and outlined the further perspectives of cooperation between National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” with the rehabilitation and inclusive resource center of Poltava region.
