The protesters died 9 years ago in the center of Kyiv, fighting for the right to live in a free European state. From February 18 to 20, 2014, the largest number of people died on the Maidan – 78 people, after February 20, more than 20 protesters died from injuries. All of them are included in the memorial of the fighters for Ukrainian independence – the Heavenly Hundred. Among the dead are two from the Poltava region: Ihor Serdiuk from Kremenchuk (killed on February 18) and Andrii Chernenko from Slobodo-Petrivka, Hrebinkivskyi district (he received a bullet wound and died in hospital the same day). Dmytro Koriak, a graduate of the Poltava Polytechnic, was also present during the tragic events at Bankova and Instytutska in Kyiv, then he was one of the first to go to the front as a volunteer and died in February 2015.
105 Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, and three foreigners – Belarusian citizen Mykhailo Zhyznevskyi and Georgian citizens Zurab Khurtsiia and David Kipiani – were posthumously awarded the Order of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
On February 17, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada recognized the Revolution of Dignity as one of the key moments of Ukrainian statehood and an expression of the national idea of freedom. The Heavenly Hundred are the first heroes of the russian-Ukrainian war.
Freedom and dignity are the fundamental values of Ukrainians, which our compatriots will always defend – until the final victory over the enemy – the russian federation. The team of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" and the students remember each Hero with respect and gratitude, support the values and guidelines that the patriots gave their lives for.
The fight continues! Heroes do not die!
