Svitlana Sivitska, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs, congratulated the participants on behalf of the Rector of Poltava Polytechnic Volodymyr Onyshchenko. The Vice-Rector emphasized that, in spite of the worldwide pandemic and the lockdown limitations, the international activity of the university is actively developing. The university effectively introduces the project of the British Council in Ukraine “English in Universities” which contributes to the development of English-taught academic programs at the university. Every year, there are more and more participants of the international conferences; in particular, our partner institutions Santa Fe College and Bialystok University of Technology, the Peace Corps in Ukraine, the British Council in Ukraine and many others regularly join our events.
More than 120 participants were present at the conference, among them were people from ten countries around the world, such as the USA, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Myanmar, Sudan, South Africa, Zambia. There were also scientists from 15 cities of Ukraine, such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kropyvnytskyi, Mykolaiiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, Kostiantynivka, Starobilsk and Poltava.
The congratulation words were joined by Vilma Fuentes, Assistant Vice-President for Academic Affairs at Santa Fe College (Florida, US), Zhanna Hrytsenko, the Head of the Technical Support Programs of the Peace Corps in Ukraine, Tomasz Buczkowicz, the Polish language lecturer at Bialystok University of Technology (Poland), Anna Ageicheva, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
The Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Alla Bolotnikova said, “With the initiative and support of the Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Economics, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, the tradition to hold the International Scientific and Practical Conference every year in spring was founded to discuss the current problems of foreign philology and intercultural communication, innovative methodologies and technologies of teaching foreign languages at the primary and higher education institutions, as well as the aspects of intellectual property.”
At the plenary meeting, the participants listened to the presentations of Dr. Regiani Aparecida Santos Zacarias from UNESP - São Paulo State University, Brazil, about the peculiarities of the English language in terms of teaching it and communicating it; Doctor of Philology, Professor at the Department of German Philology and Translation of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Liliia Bezuhla presented iconic phrases as a special feature of German anecdotes; Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic Tetiana Kushnirova spoke about the multiple narrators in the novel works of Julian Barnes; PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, the Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic Oksana Vorobyova presented the problem of telescopic neologism in modern English.
“It is important to continue developing and deepening the international partner relations with organizations and higher education institutions in the joint work on scientific problems discussed at the conference. In particular, we should maintain our communication with the USA Embassy in Ukraine, the Peace Corps in Ukraine, the British Council in Ukraine, Santa Fe College (the USA), the University of Greenwich (the UK), Bialystok University of Technology (Poland), Hebei Foreign Studies University (China), V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University,” Anna Ageicheva, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, emphasized.
The participants of the conference mentioned the clear relevancy, great scientific, methodological and organizational level of the conference events and express their gratitude to the administration of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.
