Innovative pedagogy: the head of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy shares successful cases of specialist training

Within the framework of the international program “Unity Initiative” and the agreement on scientific and educational cooperation between the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the London Metropolitan University, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy Anna Aheicheva took part in the work of the international Symposium “International Perspectives on Innovative Pedagogies”. The international scientific event took place with the full assistance and support of the Research Department of Higher Education of the British partner university. Practitioners and reputable scientists from leading universities from different parts of the world actively participated in the fruitful scientific discussion as well as discussion of current issues of European higher education. It is worth noting that Ukraine was represented exclusively by the Poltava Polytechnic at this prestigious scientific meeting.

Scientist of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Anna Aheicheva presented to the international scientific community the success story of pedagogical training at Yuri Kondratyuk National University, in which she shared effective life hacks for effective training of future professional teachers, translators, and linguists. The speaker outlined the future prospects of scientific and educational cooperation and partnership between the Poltava Polytechnic and the British University as well as shared successful cases of practical training of specialists in specialty 014 “Secondary Education”.

As Anna Aheicheva noted, on the basis of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the Poltava Polytechnic as one of the best Ukrainian universities as well as scientific and educational centers of the Poltava region, international youth and academic exchanges, which are aimed at stimulating the creative professional activity of future young scientists, exchanging experiences and ideas, acquainting young people with the results of the latest research and the latest trends in the most diverse fields of knowledge, continue to take place even in war conditions.

Philology students take an active part in international educational projects, student youth and graduates are given real opportunities to communicate with native speakers based on the principle of exchange of experience, immersion in a foreign language environment, which talented young people use as an effective innovative platform for translation practice and exchange of experience with peers from other European countries. In particular, the master’s student of the Poltava Polytechnic recently became a scholarship holder of the German DAAD program, the students studied at the NAWA Summer School of Polish Language and Culture, as well as completed a language intensive course in Germany, the student translator became a facilitator of a youth exchange dedicated to the fight against hate and bullying.

“At the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, practical training is actively carried out in the specialty 014 “Secondary education”, therefore in the educational program “Secondary education (English and a second foreign language)” emphasis is placed on specialists’ language training. In addition to the first English language, the educational program provides for the choice of a second foreign language by students of higher education – Polish or German. In secondary education institutions of the city and region, especially in philological classes, the study of a second foreign language has been introduced, thus the need for teachers of several foreign languages is obvious. Therefore, the main task of the program is the training of philologists who can simultaneously teach, for example, English and German or English and Polish. In addition to the mandatory second foreign language, students also study a third foreign language from the suggested list by the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages. During their studies, our students have the opportunity to study abroad within the framework of academic mobility programs, this contributes to a better level of language training, familiarization with the best methods of language learning abroad, acquaintance with the literary and cultural heritage of the country, the language of which those who receive higher education study.

At the Poltava Polytechnic, favorable conditions have been created for the full-fledged development of the personality of a future teacher, scientist, and translator. Most importantly, student years can be unforgettable if one skillfully uses all the advantages of studying at the university. I am sincerely glad that our graduates receive high-quality European-level higher education and are in great demand on the labor market. Such results of the joint work of the entire academic team motivate us to work even more effectively and to be proud of our belonging to one of the best universities of Ukraine,” – commented the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Anna Aheicheva.

The scientist talked about joint international projects with foreign universities and shared the successful experience of holding international events in an online format in conditions of martial law and active hostilities happening on the territory of our country, noting the active participation of partners and friends from Great Britain in joint projects. Anna Aheicheva also noted the relevance of internationalization in education: according to her, participation in prestigious international events is extremely important, since then the active dialogue continues and friendly relations between partner universities are strengthened.

“I express my sincere gratitude for the invitation to the Deputy Dean and Director of the Research Department of Higher Education of the Metropolitan University, Professor Ian Batford, who took care of the organization of such a bright and innovative event. My warm words of thanks are personally addressed to the Rector of the university, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, for the opportunities created at the university for professional and comprehensive development, cooperation with international partners.
