From 15 to 18 August, 2024, the Ukrainian Dragon Boat Championship was held at Hydropark in Zhytomyr. The large-scale sporting event brought together more than 300 athletes of the adult age category. 13 teams from 10 regions of the country came to compete for the championship and sets of honorary awards. The first day of the competition was dedicated to short distances of 200 and 500 metres, and on the second day the athletes competed for victory at the 1000 and 2000 metres.
According to the results of the Ukrainian Championships, the winners at different distances were determined and the best athletes were chosen to be part of the national team to participate in the World Championships.
Master’s students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Eduard Shemetylo and Kateryna Petrenko performed extremely well during the tournament, demonstrating excellent physical results at different distances.
In particular, athlete of Poltava Polytechnic Eduard Shemetylo won 4 gold medals in the 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 metres.
An experienced athlete, the winner of the European Dragon Boat Championship Kateryna Petrenko added 7 gold and 1 silver medals to her collection of awards.

It should be recalled that Poltava Polytechnic athlete Liudmyla Luzan won a silver medal at the Olympic Games 2024.
Recently, a teacher and students of Poltava Polytechnic won the European Bench Press Championships, and an athlete of our university, Yaroslav Verbliud, won the silver medal at the World Canoeing Championships among Youth.
Earlier, the athletes of Poltava Polytechnic won the Ukrainian Junior Triathlon (Aquathlon) Championship, and the volleyball team of Poltava Polytechnic won the Open Cup of Poltava.
