Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkarlet comes to the Polytechnic on a working visit

As part of a working visit to Poltava, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkarlet visited the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, where he met with the staff, members of the University’s Academic Council and students. The director of the Department of Education and Science of the Poltava Regional Military Administration Yevhen Konchakovskyi also took part in the meeting.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine emphasized that during his repeated visits to the Poltava Polytechnic, positive changes were observed in the state-of-the-art material and technical base, the opening of innovative laboratories and, most importantly, the preservation of the intellectual and spiritual potential of modern youth. Such universities as Poltava Polytechnic ensure the presence of Ukraine in the world scientific space and high scientific and educational capacity.

“I really love the Poltava region and the city of Poltava. I am visiting the Poltava Polytechnic once again – I have been here many times, every time, when I enter, I feel that the institution is changing, acquiring a new status. However the main thing is that these are changes for the better. It is good that the premises and territory are changing, new laboratories are appearing. Here I feel that the walls do not teach – they give space, atmosphere, security, visibility, etc. The walls make it possible to be where you, dear teachers, teach. Thanks to the fact that the teaching staff has been preserved, within the walls of the Poltava Polytechnic there is an annual increase in recognition and ratings not only in Ukraine, but also abroad,” – said Minister Serhii Shkarlet. “Without students, there is no rector, professor, teacher, university. There are few universities in Ukraine that are able to add more every year, but Poltava Polytechnic belongs to such higher education institutions. Our scientists and children are now being fought for all over the world. And we must not forget that when there were swamps in the aggressor country, there were already universities in Ukraine. We have always been strong in education.”

Scientists and students of the Poltava Polytechnic raised important issues of specialty priorities for the development of the state, this year's admission rules and preservation of intellectual potential, including those scientists and students who were forced to go abroad.

After the meeting, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkarlet presented departmental awards to scientific and pedagogical workers of various structural subdivisions of the university.

Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Construction Machinery and Equipment Viktor Virchenko was awarded the badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “For Scientific and Educational Achievements”.

The badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “Excellent in Education” was awarded to:

  • Alla Bolotnikova – PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages at the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy;

  • Oleksandr Semko – Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Construction and Civil Engineering of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management.

Three more employees received awards of the highest regional level. Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Yevhen Konchakovskyi, presented the Certificates of Honour of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, awarded to:

  • Olena Filonych – the First Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Economic Development, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Honoured Economist of Ukraine;

  • Anna Aheicheva – Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy;

  • Artem Loik – Head of the University’s Center for Culture and Student Creativity, founder of the Poltava Polytechnic Volunteer Headquarters.

“I want to thank you for not stopping despite adversities. Set yourself the most worthy goal and step towards it with your head held high. The biggest crime against yourself is to set yourself a goal much smaller than your capabilities. If you decide to go ahead – only go ahead. There is nothing impossible,” – wished the chief educator of Ukraine.

Also, as part of the visit, the Minister went to see the Center for Education and Care of Preschool Children Mr. Leader, familiarized himself with the implementation of the continuous education system and delighted the pupils of the centre with gifts.

“Despite the war, our university has started the first semester on August 15, as was recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and provides classes in an offline format. In accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, we started the second semester of the academic year live in an offline format on February 14. Recently, there was a master’s students’ graduation, about 500 people, which also took place live.

I sincerely thank you for your high assessment of the qualitative changes that have taken place at the university since your last working visit – the first working day as a minister.

As Serhii Mykolaiovych emphasized, walls do not teach, walls give space, and people teach. Thanks to our educators, scientists and youth, Ukraine went on in the conditions of war.

And despite the war, our university continues to develop dynamically – all-Ukrainian and international rankings speak eloquently for themselves. Among higher education institutions of Ukraine, the university is among the TOP-50 best.

Thanks to the efforts of the academic staff, the university entered the international quality ranking of the QS ranking.

This is the task that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine sets before us: that science reaches the international level and we ensure the fulfilment of the tasks that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine sets for our university.

At the same time, we strengthened the material and technical base, became the most popular university among applicants in the Poltava region. We provide the educational process offline and implemented new projects, in particular, we opened the first kindergarten in Ukraine at a higher education institution, which became the basis for legislative initiatives to modernize the entire preschool education system.

Thank you for the frank conversation about the problems of Ukrainian education in general and higher education in particular, for the powerful support and motivation! Glory to Ukraine!” – commented the rector of the university, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

Communication with students continued in Poltava's state-of-the-art student location, which is preparing for its opening – StudHUB Poltava Polytechnic: the Minister of Education and Science became the first visitor to the Indomitability Point, which will begin its work on the basis of the Volunteer Headquarters and student co-working space.

Last year, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhii Zakharin, visited the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” as part of a working visit to Poltava Region.
