National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” celebrated the Museum Selfie Day. Museums of university's structural subdivisions offer unique exhibits to their visitors.

Collections of rocks, minerals and ores, ceramics, units of money from different time periods and countries, personal things of famous people - all this is exhibited at the museums of our university and its colleges.

Museum Selfie Day was founded in 2014 by Mar Dixon, a woman from London, who runs a website about museums, art and culture. This holiday is celebrated annually on the third Wednesday of January. This year, the event falls on January, 20, and is celebrated during the lockdown in Ukraine, so the visitors post pictures from previous years.

Unique museums created in order to promote the cultural and historical achievements of the Ukrainian people are functioning at National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" and at its separate structural subdivisions Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, Poltava Oil and Gas College, and Myrhorod Art and Industrial College named after M. V. Hohol.

A bright pearl of Polytechnic is the People’s Museum of University History named after Nadiia Kocherha, a well-known scientist, founder of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department. The museum has been functioning for almost half a century.

“The People’s Museum of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is an important part of our higher education institution. With the fascinating things and documents, the museum shows the main periods of university’s development that prove that it is a leading higher education institution in Ukraine and takes a special place in the educational process for student youth. The museum was opened on May, 8, 1975.

“In 1985, the museum was headed by PhD in History Nadiia Kocherham who at that time was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Social and Political Subjects. And the administration did not make a mistake in choosing the person to lead the museum. Nadiia Kocherha put a lot of efforts and energy into creating the museum that was her favorite job. Thanks to her, the exhibition of the museum was modernized, complemented and expanded. Nadiia Kocherha conducted great local history researches, discovering new personalities that were connected with the history of our university.

“In accordance with the Decree of the Culture Administration Collegium of Poltava Oblast State Administration of July, 22, 1998, the museum was given the status of “the people’s museum” for the high level of research, cultural and historical activity”, Head of the museum, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Department Liudmyla Cherednyk said.

The exhibition of this museum consists of 10 chapters and houses more than a thousand of exhibits that help visitors learn the stage of development and the traditions of Poltava Polytechnic.

The museum funds keep the unique exhibits from the history of former Poltava Institute of Noble Maidens that existed for more than a century within the walls of our university. Numerous visitors, teachers and students can see the personal belongings of a famous inventor from Poltava, after whom our university is named.

The exhibits of the museum include the Books of Honors, that stores the names of famous graduates and the heroes who gave their lives to protect the independence and freedom of Ukraine, including graduate of Electromechanical Faculty Dmytro Koriak, and third-year student of Education and Research Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management Maksym Khitailov.

Geological richness of Poltava region has be seen during the excursion around the unique geological museum of Poltava Oil and Gas College. Director of the college, PhD in Engineering Liubov Shumska said that this is the only specialized geological museum in Poltava oblast that has a systematized collection of the main kinds of rocks, ores and minerals that constitute the earth surface. The museum funds store more than 2,000 exhibits illustrating the richness of our planet’s subsurface.

“Our museum has been functioning for more than 40 years and consists of four main thematic exhibitions. The Rock Formation section shows the geological processes that have been happening on the ground and underground on the Earth for 4,5 billion years. The Minerals section demonstrates the main kinds of minerals of various types and classes. The Mineral Deposits section presents mineral deposits production and examples. The Natural History exhibition covers the stages of life development on the Earth. The museum also has several small but interesting exhibitions including the World of Rocks, the World of Seas and Oceans, the Mineral Deposits of Poltava Region. There is also a new exhibition titled “Minerals and Rock Formations of Ukraine” that is constantly updated with examples of rocks and minerals from all over Ukraine,” Liubov Shumska commented.

Another unique treasure that is definitely worth visiting is the Museum of Money operating at Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic".

The Museum of Money was founded together with Finance, Banking and Taxation Department, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary on January, 21, 2021. Formation of such a museum was initiated by the founder and the first Head of the Department, Rector of our university, Doctor of Economics, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko. He donated the first exhibits from his collection that he owned since childhood to the museum.

“The collection of the museum has been complemented by teachers and students of our department during these 20 years, and guests also contribute to our museum. As of today, the exhibition of the museum includes units of money from more than 50 countries of the world. Visitors of the museum can see unique monetary units, such as hryvnias of 1918, produced under the Ukrainian People’s Republic, the first money of an independent Ukrainian state, and the paper karbovanets from the beginning of the 20th century.

“The coin collection has several ancient exhibits, such as the coins from the period of Poltava reconstruction during Yelizaveta I’s reign, coins from the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century and so on. A large part of the museum is dedicated to coins of foreign countries,” Doctor of Economics, Professor, Director of Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management Iryna Chernysh commented.

The museum takes part in the education process and its exhibits are used while teaching subjects of the department, holding professional orientation events, promoting the history of money units.

Myrhorod Art and Industrial College named after M. V. Hohol of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” houses the Museum of Ceramics (room of graduation pieces), that has been functioning there since the moment of founding the former Art and Industrial School.

The museum belongs to the list of important places of Ukraine. The unique collection of art masterpieces consists of the graduation pieces of students and works of teachers of the college created since the end of the 19th century and up until today, as well as Chinese, Iranian, Italian, Japanese and French ceramic pieces and works of famous artists. The main part of the exhibition is compiled of 20 large works of famous sculptors E. Falkone, A. Adamson, and F. Gordeev.

The exhibition is annually updated with wonderful works of college graduates created with high level of artistic skills and aesthetics.

Last summer, National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became a part of the tour programduring the celebration of European Heritage Days 2020 in Poltava and was included in the touristic route “Poltava Kondratyukiana”.
