Every year on May 24, teachers and students of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” organize scientific and educational events dedicated to significant dates related to the development of writing and culture on the territory of our country, present scientific researches and linguistic explorations. According to scientists, students willingly participate in the discussion of the most pressing issues of language education, popularize their native language and explore little-known pages of the life and work of the classics of Ukrainian literature.

In connection with the martial law and active hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the student scientific round table was held in a mixed format. The scientific discussion was attended by about a hundred participants – students and teachers of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, separate structural subdivisions – Poltava College of Oil and Gas and Myrhorod Vocational College named after Mykola Gogol. This year's large-scale scientific event was dedicated to a special date – the 300th anniversary of the birth of the famous Ukrainian philosopher, poet, man who was ahead of his time, Hryhorii Savovych Skovoroda.

The work of the student scientific round table “Hryhorii Skovoroda – humanist, philosopher and poet” was opened by the Head of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Iryna Perederii. The speaker focused the attention of those present on the historical roots of the holiday, stressing the importance of preserving the cultural potential and powerful genetic code of any nation – the language – by the modern generation.

“The significant anniversary date of our compatriot, philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda is of particular importance in the context of the tragic events that our state of Ukraine is experiencing today. After all, in the modern period of the russian-Ukrainian war, Ukrainian society is not only in a state of armed struggle against the aggressor, but also in a phase of worldview confrontation of meanings – a confrontation between the Horde empire and the republic, a confrontation between authoritarianism and democracy, a confrontation, in fact, between the past and the future. And this confrontation of meanings is also manifested in the fact that our enemy openly destroys or seeks to appropriate our cultural heritage.

The occupiers are harming not only people’s lives, the infrastructure of cities, but also the custodians of Ukrainian cultural capital – libraries, archives and museums. There is deliberate destruction and damage to monuments of history and culture, seizure of Ukrainian history textbooks and other literature that recorded the Ukrainian national cultural code. Among this cultural wealth of ours, which was encroached by the enemy and destroyed on the night of May 6, 2022, is the Hryhorii Skovoroda National Literary and Memorial Museum. It is our firm belief that historical justice will be restored, and goodness and light will surely win. The wisdom of the giant of Ukrainian culture Hryhorii Savovych Skovoroda, the pages of his allegorical fables and aphorisms convince us of this once again. After all, Ukrainian culture and its unique spirit cannot be broken,” – emphasized Iryna Perederii.

Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva wished the participants of the scientific meeting successful, interesting scientific discussions and faith in their own strength. According to the head of one of the youngest faculties of the Poltava Polytechnic, as long as the nation preserves its own unique identity, it is immortal.

Students of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics, the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” presented topical scientific reports devoted to the life path and creative heritage of the outstanding thinker, traveling philosopher, poet Hryhorii Skovoroda. The work of the student scientific round table was moderated by Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Viktoriia Voshchenko.

The scientific event program was extremely rich: the participants presented their own scientific reports, talked about interesting facts from the life of the philosopher, actively discussed and quoted excerpts from the works of Hryhorii Skovoroda. Interesting studies were presented by: student of group 201-ER of the Educational and Research Institute of Finance, Economics, Management and Law, Alina Danilenko (“Hryhorii Skovoroda: ‘a wise man in word, mind, and life’”, supervisor – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Liudmyla Derevianko); student of group 301-HD of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Oksana Kubai (“The problem of spiritual wealth in the works of Hryhorii Skovoroda”, supervisor – Candidate of Sciences in Social Communications, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Olena Vdovina); student of group 201-HD of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Yuliia Kondratenko (“Baroque philosophy of H.S. Skovoroda”, supervisor – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Andrii Naradko); student of group 401-А of the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management, Anna Mykhailova (“Metaphilosophy of Hryhorii Skovoroda”, supervisor – Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation Viktoriia Voshchenko); student of group 101-HD of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Viktoriia Vakula (“The musical world of Hryhorii Skovoroda”, supervisor – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Iryna Perederii) and a student of group 103-TN of the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics Yana Kapustian (“Pedagogical ideas of Hryhorii Skovoroda in the context of folk didactics”, supervisor – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Denysovets).

Each of the reports was presented at a high level, accompanied by successful visual and presentational elements. So, in particular, in Yuliia Kondratenko’s report “Baroque philosophy of H. Skovoroda”, the thinker was presented as, without a doubt, the most prominent, most glorious figure in the history of Ukraine of the Baroque era.

The fact that music in the life of our illustrious compatriot was the dominant worldview is an indisputable fact and proven in most studies about the genius of world culture from Poltava. The speech on the topic “Musical world of Hryhorii Skovoroda” by the student of the 101-HD academic group Victoriia Vakula illustrated that music for Hryhorii Skovoroda became a means of conveying the philosophy of being and manifested itself, first of all, in the figurative sphere, aimed at the inner world of a person and his understanding of the world around him through the dualism of himself existence with its contrast between good and evil, spiritual and physical, life and death. He also perceived poetry as “the most perfect music”, he called his own poetic works songs, symphonies, sonatas, and the word sounded to him like a melody.

The study of the creative heritage of the national philosopher also provides an opportunity to touch upon the origins of Ukrainian pedagogical skills, based on the immortal traditions of national pedagogy, which were constantly used by Hryhorii Skovoroda in his works. Student Yana Kapustian interestingly told the audience about the pedagogical ideas of the philosopher in the context of folk didactics in her speech.

The meeting of the student scientific round table was productive, popularizing the figure of the philosopher-mystic Hryhorii Skovoroda and his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian as well as European culture, and the participants emphasized the importance of the work of a genius for the next generations of Ukrainians.

Summing up the work of the round table, the Head of the Department of the Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Iryna Perederii called on the student youth to continue to affirm the image of a highly educated Ukrainian nation and to nurture an invaluable treasure – the folk wisdom.

“I hope that the fruitful scientific discussion gave space for new thoughts, each of us learned something new, was inspired by the work of the traveling philosopher Hryhorii Skovoroda, which is based on centuries-old universal wisdom. It is very difficult for our country now – Ukrainian independence is being fought for by generations of victors in a terrible and bloody way. Let’s recall the words of Hryhorii Skovoroda, who said: ‘Be like a palm tree: the harder the rock squeezes it, the faster and more beautifully it rises up.’ Right now, Ukraine has finally established itself in the world, has turned into a worldwide stronghold of truth, goodness, democracy, and light. We also believe in Victory, let’s cherish the legacy of our Titans, to which Skovoroda belongs,” – emphasized the scientist.

Earlier, students and teachers discussed the work of the outstanding poetess, and the participants of the scientific round table discussed the contribution of the Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius to the national revival as well as popularized vyshyvankas.
