Holding student round tables on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language is one of the old scientific traditions of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the whole university family.
“The holiday, founded by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 1997 to celebrate the great national treasure - the language - became an occasion for all the Ukrainians to unite with their love to their native language, its poetry. Because your native language is not only a communication tool. It’s the key to understand people, “a ground for people to build an independent nation, and there is no independent nation without its own language”, as Ivan Ohiienko, a famous linguist, said,” Doctor of History, Professor, Head of Department of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Iryna Perederii commented.
The round table was joined by students and teachers of our university and Poltava Oil and Gas College. They prepared interesting reports and colorful presentations.
PhD in Pedagogy, Dean of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Anna Ageicheva greeted the participants on behalf of Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko and Vice Rector for Scientific and International Affairs Svitlana Sivitska, and invited students and teachers of the college to the University Week dedicated to Faculty of Humanities held during November 23-27.
“Congratulations, dear colleagues and students of our university and college! We have recently written the All-Ukrainian Dictation of National Unity together, and now we are talking about the genius personalities, their great contributions into the development of Ukrainian literature and language. Because learning foreign languages is impossible without the love to literature, and learning to translate is impossible without proper knowledge of one’s native language. I wish that all the participants of the round table enjoy the presentations and have a fruitful discussion!” Dean of Faculty of Humanities said.
The topic of this year’s round table was dedicated to the jubilees of two famous Ukrainian poets, Vasyl Symonenko and Lina Kostenko, and to the 90th anniversary of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.
Liudmyla Derevianko, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Department of Ukrainian Studies, Culture and Documentation of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, emphasized in her presentation the importance of the heritage we have from the writers who fought for truth, beauty and honour in the 1960s.
Students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Poltava Oil and Gas College studied and analyzed a range of articles about the life and works of the famous poets. They presented scientific reports with the help of experienced scientific advisors and read their favorite poetry pieces at the event.
The lockdown and the distanced form of communication did not prevent students and teachers from keeping the traditions of the round table after the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation (“The Challenges of the Age of Books”: Students and Teachers of Polytechnic Write Jubilee Radio Dictation) to discuss the current linguistic problems, to discover new pages of cultural phenomena, in which the intellectual and spiritual experience of the people is accumulated, to understand the need of knowing the language perfectly as one of the most important factors of high-quality education.
