Polytechnic General Linguistics Department hosts the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference

The Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic hosted the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Training”, which was attended by more than 120 representatives from different cities of Ukraine and eight countries.

Polytechnic General Linguistics Department hosts the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference

On 7 May 2025, the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic hosted the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Training” within the framework of the Annual Scientific Conference of Professors, Teachers, Scientists, Postgraduates and Students at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.

The international conference was initiated and supported by the Honorary Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Chairman of the Academic Board of the university, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

This year, more than 120 participants from different cities of Ukraine, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Kryvyi Rih, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and others, as well as from eight countries, including the USA, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Poland, Sweden and India, registered to participate in the conference.

It has become a good tradition at the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy to hold scientific events that unite the intellectual and spiritual potential of peoples and cultures of the world. It is gratifying to see our regular participants, colleagues and good partners from the State University of São Paulo, Florida State University, Johns Hopkins University, University of the Metropolitan London, Białystok University of Technology, the US Peace Corps in Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Vasyl Karazin Kharkiv National University, Dnipro Polytechnic and others.

The conference was solemnly opened by Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olena Stepova, who conveyed the greetings from the Honorary Rector of the university Volodymyr Onyshchenko and Rector of Poltava Polytechnic Olena Filonych, congratulated all the participants of the conference and wished them success, interesting speeches, and fruitful discussions.

The Dean of Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Poltava Polytechnic, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva also greeted the participants and stressed that the topic of foreign languages was very relevant today.

The conference organisers received sincere words of congratulations from the regular partners of Polytechnic, in particular Tetiana Haiduk (US Peace Corps in Ukraine), Robert Romanchuk (Ph.D., Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, Florida State University, USA), Regiani Aparecida Santos Zacarias, Dr., UNESP, State University of São Paulo (Brazil), Mary Talalay, MS, MPH, Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA).

According to the Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Alla Bolotnikova, the tradition of holding the annual International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Training” was caused by the necessity to discuss topical issues of foreign philology and intercultural communication, innovative methods and technologies of teaching foreign languages in secondary and higher education institutions.

The working languages of the conference were Ukrainian, English, German, French, and Polish. The participants discussed the results of their research in several sections, including: Topical Issues of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies; Innovative Methods and Technologies of Teaching Foreign Languages in Higher Education Institutions; Word and Text in the Space of Culture; Aspects of Intellectual Property in the Higher Education System.

The plenary session of the conference was opened by Mary Talalay MS, MPH, Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA) with the report “HOW LEARNING LANGUAGES IMPROVES BRAIN FUNCTION AND CREATIVITY”, in which she raised the issue of the importance of learning foreign languages and their impact on human mental abilities and creativity.

Regiani Aparecida Santos Zacarias, Dr., UNESP – São Paulo State University (São Paulo, Brazil), presented the results of her research in the report “VIRTUAL EXCHANGE: CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND LEARNING”. The speaker explored intercultural communication and learning through the prism of virtual communication and information exchange.

Olha Kvasova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Methods of Teaching Ukrainian and Foreign Languages and Literatures of the Educational and Research Institute of Philology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, shared the main cases in the preparation of courses for university teachers in her report “CEFR/CV-RELATED TRAINING COURSE FOR UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: INSIGHTS FROM PILOTING”.

The presentation of Robert Romanchuk, Ph.D., Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, Florida State University, USA, was incredibly interesting. In his presentation on “ELEMENTARY UKRAINIAN TEXTBOOKS FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS”, he presented his work on textbooks for learning Ukrainian at the elementary level for native English speakers.

Lisa Ryoko Wakamiya, PhD, Associate Professor in Modern Languages and Linguistics, Florida State University, USA, interested the audience and provoked a flurry of questions and discussions with her presentation on the topic: “QUALITY MATTERS IN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION”. She raised the main issues of the importance of learning languages at a high quality level.

Traditionally, another participant of the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Innovative Technologies in the Context of Foreign Language Training” was Liliia Rostyslavivna Bezuhla, Doctor of Philology, Professor, Professor of the Department of Romano-Germanic Philology of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Kharkiv). The researcher presented her latest work on the topic: “LANGUAGE ACT APPROACH TO THE ANALYSIS OF MULTIMODAL TEXTS”.

Kseniia Taranenko, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Philology and Language Communication, National Technical University “Dnipro Polytechnic” (Dnipro), presented her report “UKRAINIAN AS A SOFT POWER: CULTURAL POTENTIAL IN THE WORLD”, which fascinated the audience and provoked a flurry of questions and comments.

The participants of the conference noted the relevance, high scientific-theoretical, methodological and organisational levels of the conference and expressed their sincere gratitude to the leadership of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and the organising committee for the professional organisation of this scientific event, as well as to all the participants for their joint work, informative answers, active participation in the discussion of the problems of philology and linguodidactics, and the high informative level of the presentations and materials.

It should be recalled that on the occasion of the International Day of Intellectual Property, the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy held a scientific event – “World Cafe: Intellectual Property Protection, Problems and Prospects”.
