On 14-16 May 2025, the international event Promoting Erasmus+ Mobilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Higher Education took place in Vienna (Austria), bringing together more than 200 representatives of higher education institutions from around Europe.
The event was organised by the Austrian Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) and the Erasmus+ National Agency in Austria with the support of the Erasmus+ National Agencies of Estonia, Germany and Portugal. Its main goal is to promote the development of international academic mobility of students and teachers in STEM fields, to exchange best practices between universities and to create new opportunities for cooperation within the Erasmus+ programme.
National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” was represented by Deputy Director of Educational and Research Institute of Information Technologies and Robotics Kseniia Verhal.
During three intensive days, the participants of the event had the opportunity to learn about successful examples of STEM mobility from Estonia, Portugal, Austria and Germany, discuss new formats of academic exchange, including Blended Intensive Programmes, take part in the networking session “Let’s meet and connect” as well as join a series of professional workshops on the following topics
- recognising learning outcomes in STEM fields;
- optimising the mobility organisation;
- developing creative information campaigns to increase student engagement.
During the discussions, special attention was paid to the role of international experience in shaping the competitiveness of STEM students in the labour market, as well as the challenges and benefits of academic mobility from the point of view of both students and teachers.
Kseniia Verhal’s participation in this event was a logical continuation of Poltava Polytechnic’s active work in the STEM education development. The university already has many years of experience in implementing innovative solutions at all levels of the educational process, from Bachelor’s to Master’s degree, combining a thorough theoretical training with a practical component, which ensures that students are highly ready to face the challenges in modern technological fields.

One of the key areas of STEM education development is creating a modern laboratory and research infrastructure. Students have the opportunity to acquire practical skills in engineering, IT and robotics laboratories and work with advanced technologies.
Poltava Polytechnic also actively supports students’ participation in innovative projects and start-ups by providing mentoring, methodological and resource support. This approach contributes not only to the consolidation of technical knowledge, but also to the development of critical thinking skills, teamwork, and solving complex engineering problems.
University representative’s participation in the Vienna event was an important step towards expanding international cooperation, deepening partnerships and implementing best European practices in STEM education.
“Taking part in events of this level is extremely important for the development of international cooperation and improvement of STEM education in Ukraine. We strive to implement the best European practices in the educational process of our university, creating more opportunities for student and faculty mobility. We are grateful to the incredible team of National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine for the opportunity to share our experience and the inspiring atmosphere of cooperation!” – noted the Coordinator of International Cooperation of Poltava Polytechnic Anna Pavelieva.
Recently, students of Poltava Polytechnic shared their impressions of their Erasmus+ internship at ISCAP (Portugal), and the delegation of our university took part in the academic mobility under the Erasmus+ programme within the ISCAP International Week, Students of Poltava Polytechnic shared their impressions of studying under Erasmus+ programmes at the universities of Austria (Vienna and Eisenstadt), Estonia, Denmark, Spain, Slovakia, and Poland; a university scientist joined an international project, an architect-to-be took part in the second part of the Erasmus+ youth exchange in Poland, and a future translator took part in an Erasmus+ training on conflict transformation.
It should be noted that Poltava Polytechnic teachers can participate in academic mobility programmes and internships, and students of Poltava Polytechnic have the opportunity to study abroad under the grant programmes of credit academic mobility for a semester or a whole academic year at the leading universities of Austria, Greenland, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Finland, and the Czech Republic.
