For the third year in a row, Poltava Polytechnic’s scientist has been acting as the External Communications Coordinator at Eurodoc, the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers, a non-governmental organisation that represents and protects the interests of more than 2 million young scientists in Europe at the international level. Eurodoc includes 23 national associations from 26 European countries, and Ukraine has been a member of Eurodoc since 2014.
The programme of the event was rich and covered a wide range of issues aimed at promoting the organisation’s initiatives as well as addressing the key challenges faced by researchers at the onset of their careers.
The meeting discussed Eurodoc’s current activities and plans for the next year, as well as current issues in the European academic environment, including mental health and well-being in the scientific community. Participants shared best practices at the individual and institutional levels, discussed successful strategies and developed recommendations for creating a favourable environment for researchers.
Special attention was paid to the competencies required by young researchers. Participants were introduced to three main framework documents: “The European Competence Framework for Researchers”, “The Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture” and the Competence Framework “Science for Policy”. They conducted self-assessments and discussed strategies for developing universal skills and supporting professional development.
Among the issues on the agenda were strategies aimed at improving employment conditions, implementing transparent evaluation practices, supporting researchers working on tenure-track contracts, and new opportunities for cooperation within EU-funded projects, including the Janus initiative.
Particular attention was paid to the research security issues and their alignment with the principles of open science, long-term strategies for the Eurodoc secretariat, issues of national associations, working groups, and harmonisation of habilitation practices in different European countries.
Previously, as External Communications Coordinator at Eurodoc, Anna Pavelieva took part in the annual conference in the Slovenian capital, a workshop on European education policies in Brussels, presented opportunities for science and learning in wartime at the Eurodoc conference in Sweden, and attended three scientific events in Prague on research and research grant evaluation.
