Polytechnic scientists and foreign partners discuss the world experience of intellectual property protection

To the the International Intellectual Property Day, scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” held an international scientific event – “World Cafe: intellectual property protection, problems and prospects”. Representatives of Sweden, the United States and the United Kingdom have joined this year.

The international event – round table “World Cafe: intellectual property protection, problems and prospects” takes place every year on April 26. National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” has been participating in educational events held in different countries on this day for many years. This year the traditional event took place as part of the Science Days at the university.

The round table was attended by 70 participants, traditionally joined by students and teachers of Poltava Polytechnic as well as separate structural subdivisions – colleges. Among the foreign participants in this year’s round table were representatives of Sweden, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The round table was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Anna Aheicheva, who has repeatedly participated in internship programs in Sweden, the Philippines and Ethiopia from the World Intellectual Property Organization, supported by the Swedish Patent Office.

Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Work Svitlana Sivitska greeted the participants of the round table, conveyed congratulations on the occasion of Intellectual Property Day from the Rector of the University Volodymyr Onyshchenko and stressed that the topic of intellectual property protection is of extreme importance today.

A senior lecturer at the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages Yuliia Hunchenko moderated the round table. Scientists, teachers and students presented interesting thematic reports on the world experience of intellectual property protection. Students of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy – Anastasiia Chernikova, Albina Hrun and Daria Kaliuzhna in their reports described in detail the features of intellectual property protection in different countries, illustrating with examples and aroused great interest of the audience.

The representative of the Swedish Patent Office – Senior Legal Adviser in the field of intellectual property Christian Nilsson spoke about the support of Ukraine and international joint projects. He praised the presentations of students of the Yuri Kondratyuk National University and noted that the protection of intellectual property is an important part not only of daily life but also of cultural exchange between our countries.

Head of the Department of Foreign Languages at higher educational institution “Podillia State University” Iryna Humeniuk stressed that the importance of protecting intellectual property cannot be overestimated. This is what distinguishes the inhabitants of the civilized world, what is worth talking about, especially in universities. Alex Purcell, a participant in the round table and a permanent speaker of the faculty’s speaking club, said that he was glad to join the discussion of this important topic.

“We are pleased to note the participation of our partners and friends from Ukraine and other countries. The issue of intellectual property protection in education today is the subject of increased attention from society and the state, as it must address pressing issues and respond to today’s challenges. With this event, we started an active dialogue, the ultimate goal of which is to raise students’ awareness of intellectual property issues. We are sincerely grateful to the rector of the university for the comprehensive support and the opportunity to develop and maintain international relations of the university, to work on the promotion of academic integrity,” – commented Dean Anna Aheicheva.

Deliberation from time to time grew into a lively discussion, which once again confirmed the relevance of the topic of the round table.

Previously, Polytechnic scientist passed the “Spring School of Young Scientist 2.0”, representatives of Poltava Polytechnic took part in a scientific teleconference, as well as the Ministry of Education, EIC Accelerator and USF held a workshop on opportunities for Ukrainian innovators.
