Economists Give Practical Recommendations for Counteracting the Dangers to Ukraine's Economic Security during the Pandemic

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” hosted the VI All-Ukrainian Conference with International Participation “Economic Security: State, Region, Enterprise”. Specialists from different parts of our country discussed the risks and economic challenges for the state development during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Economists Give Practical Recommendations for Counteracting the Dangers to Ukraine's Economic Security during the Pandemic

Within the scientific and educational events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Finance, Banking and Taxation Department of Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", its academic staff held the VI All-Ukrainian Conference with International Participation “Economic Security: State, Region, Enterprise”.

Due to the lockdown, the scientific event was held online with partners joining from all over Ukraine. About 80 scientists from 9 regions of Ukraine, as well as several foreign universities, joined the constructive discussions about risks and dangers for the economic security of our country.

M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv, Donetsk National University (Vinnytsia).

Scientists of leading Ukrainian higher education institutions and scientific establishments, practicing experts, representatives of financial companies and state government bodies shared their thoughts on the economic problems and the ways of solving potential financial dangers.

“Such scientific and practical conferences give scientists the possibility to find a joined point of view on the ways of solving global economic problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While discussing the current economic problems, we try to build the possible picture of economic changes that the pandemic can bring to us. We hope that the constructive dialog and the close cooperation with scientists from various higher education institutions and specialists of the financial field will allow us to solve the pressing issues of the national economy,” Doctor of Economics, Professor, Director of Education and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Iryna Chernysh commented.

Participants of the conference worked in the four following sections:

  • The problems of economic security in terms of the world challenges and dangers;
  • Creating systems in the economic security studies; state, region, enterprise;
  • Evaluating risks and dangers in economic security;
  • Ensuring economic security of a state, a region, an enterprise: modern concepts, directions and instruments.

The participants paid a lot of attention to the issues of improving the tools, directions and algorithms of ensuring financial and economic security of a state, a region, an enterprise, as well as the methodologies of evaluating risks and dangers to the economic security in terms of the pandemic.

The main dangers to the economic security of Ukraine at the moment include financial globalization, international oligarch’s corruption, shade economic processes, offshores, “hybrid wars”, the world pandemic, migration processes etc.

The participants noted that the main challenge for business and the reson of real and potential dangers is still the world COVID-19 pandemic, so the problem of informational security of national economy is becoming especially relevant in terms of the lockdown measures and digital transformation processes.

In conclusion, the members of the presidium and the participants of the conference mentioned the relevance of the issues and the necessity of further scientific research on the current problems of ensuring economic security of a state, a region, an enterprise.

The scientists created a resolution, in which they gave practical recommendations on applying the systematic approach to identifying and analyzing phenomena and processes in external and internal environments of the social and economic security systems, which gives the possibility to identify the causes, events and processes that are the sources of dangers with further evaluation of their influence on the social and economic safety of region and enterprise.

They recommended that the regional government bodies form directions of priority for ensuring social and economic security of the region, the which are realized through the mechanisms of neutralizing the real dangers and preventing the potential ones, and quickly correcting the regional social and economic policy according to the strategic targets. In terms of working with the consequences of the pandemic and the financial and economic crisis caused by it, the direction of priority in the activity of both the state and the business is holding a coordinated policy that would take into account the factors and risks influencing the crisis. Adaptive management in dealing with real dangers will ensure minimization of financial risks for business and create a ground for further development of business in the post crisis period, when the influence of the danger will be decreased.

At the end of November, scientists of Poltava Polytechnic discussed the priorities of national economy development during the global crisis.
