Quality education and safe conditions: the first-year students’ educational process begins

On September 19, online classes for this year’s first-year students began at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”. The university takes care of the safety of all participants in the educational process and creates conditions to give students the opportunity to participate in the educational process live.

It is worth noting the fact that despite the peculiarity of this year’s academic year, despite the introduction of martial law and active hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the administration as well as scientific and pedagogical staff of the Polytechnic confidently return to the usual format, and this year’s first-year students begin psychological adaptation in the conditions of a higher education institution.

As the Rector of the Poltava Polytechnic, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko emphasized, the provision of high-quality European education remains one of the priority areas of work of the university’s scientific and pedagogical team.

“We started this academic year according to the methodology of European universities – first students start attending classes, adapt, and then welcome celebrations are held. Our history is being written right before our eyes, and the revival and reconstruction of our young European state depends on our graduates, students and each of us as teachers, scientists, people whose lives are connected with the development of Ukrainian higher education. Let’s help our talented student youth realize their wildest dreams and professional aspirations, get the maximum intellectual pleasure from the mastered profession and the opportunity to become useful to their own people! It is their energy, desire to be the best, acquired knowledge and skills that will help the future elite to stand guard over the reconstruction and revival of Ukraine, its economic and innovative development,” – noted the rector.

“Since August 15, studies for students of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th years have been ongoing – for the first time in the history of the university, guided by security considerations, recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the call of the President of Ukraine, the academic year for senior bachelor’s students started two weeks earlier.

This became possible thanks to the timely preparation of protective shelters, classrooms, coordinated work of the management and university staff. Clearly understanding our own responsibility for preserving the lives and health of our students, we did everything possible to organize the educational process to be as comfortable as possible, so that everyone could feel safe within the university walls,” – commented the Director of the Department of Educational Process Organization, Accreditation and Licensing of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Oleh Maksymenko. According to him, the vast majority of students returned to studying in a “live” format.

“There are currently 161 academic student groups studying. Our main task was to create a schedule in such a way that the number of students and teachers staying at the same time in each educational building did not exceed the maximum permissible norms for prepared shelters. 160 classrooms, including 24 lecture halls, 29 specialized laboratories and innovation laboratories, are involved for training. The existing classroom fund of the university allows to comfortably accommodate all of the students present.

At the same time, we keep in touch with each student and provide the possibility of distance learning in an asynchronous format for students who cannot come to the university,” – added Oleh Maksymenko.

The actual presence of students during classes at the university is one of the main safety indicators of the high-quality educational process organization, which is constantly monitored.

Objectively evaluating the above factors, teachers continue to work with the distance learning platform Moodle and fill the training courses to cover the learning of students who are able to study online.

Earlier, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Zakharin checked the readiness of the Poltava Polytechnic for the start of studies, people’s deputies familiarized themselves with the process of preparing the university for the new academic year, and on the first day of the new academic year, more than half of the bachelor’s students came for classes.
