More than 1000 participants from Ukraine and the world united within the International Human Rights Conference “Decade 2014-2024. Reclaiming human rights. Preserving Democracy”, which took place on 5 December 2024 in Kyiv with the participation of representatives of the government, international organisations, human rights defenders, journalists and civil society activists.
The conference was attended by Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset, Ombudsmen of Moldova, representatives of Estonia, Japan, Italy and other countries, as well as international organisations: The UN, ENNHRI, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights and others, who expressed their full support for our country.
The large-scale international event began with a keynote speech by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who stressed that it is a crime not only that russia is holding our people captive, but also that the world is not doing enough to stop this evil, return our citizens and punish the aggressor.
During the panel discussions held at the conference, participants addressed extremely important issues: search and return of Ukrainians from russian captivity, reintegration of released citizens, protection of the children’s rights as well as the internally displaced persons’ rights, and restoration of the global human rights system.

The conference was organised by the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine, the Office of the President of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with the support of the “Transformational Recovery for Human Security in Ukraine” project, funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by UNDP.
Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko represented Poltava Polytechnic in a significant human rights dialogue, noting the importance of holding such events and outlining the place of a multidisciplinary classical university in the fruitful cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.

“I support the call of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets to international partners to join forces to protect democratic values that are now under threat from dictatorial regimes. Democracy is not only a right, but also a responsibility of each of us.

I am grateful to the Ombudsman of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets for the invitation and contribution to the creation of new approaches to overcoming the challenges facing the world.
Last year, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became the first higher education institution in Ukraine to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. This step opened up new opportunities for active work in the field of protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens. Dmytro Lubinets highly appreciated our cooperation and said that Poltava Polytechnic was a reliable partner of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.
I would like to thank the Representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in the Poltava Region Vladyslav Nosenko for the opportunity for students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” to take part in such an important event. Together we are creating the future where human rights are an inviolable value!” – acknowledged Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
