Every year, on 23 August, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the National Flag, the symbol of Ukrainian identity and independence. The Ukrainian flag has been hoisted over Mount Everest, it has been fluttering at the Akademik Vernadsky station, it has been flying into space with Leonid Kadeniuk and repeatedly appeared on the podium of the Olympic Games since 1996.
“The flag bears the signatures of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, defenders and defendresses, veterans, medics, rescuers, volunteers, regional and community leaders, as well as artists, educators and athletes. All those who strengthen the country with their daily work,” – said the head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration Filip Pronin. “Blue and yellow. It is native. It is our flag. It contains the connection between generations, the strength of spirit and the power of every Ukrainian. Happy Day of the National Flag of Ukraine”.
Among those who had the honour to sign the artefact were students and graduates of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, in particular, the champion, silver medallist of the Olympic Games 2024, master’s student of speciality 017 Physical Culture and Sports Liudmyla Luzan, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine, Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
This year, after the Minute of Silence for all the fallen, the largest flag of the Poltava region was hoisted by combatants, military personnel – Senior Sergeant Serhii Ryhin and Staff Sergeant Mykola Demianets.
The Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko joined the ceremony:

The biggest flag of the Poltava region, a blue and yellow flag measuring 8 by 12 metres, will be handed over to the Museum of Local Lore named after Vasyl Krychevskyi.
Earlier, athlete of Poltava Polytechnic Liudmyla Luzan won a silver medal at the Olympic Games 2024, a teacher and students of Poltava Polytechnic became winners of the European Championship in the classic bench press, and an athlete of Poltava Polytechnic became a silver medallist at the World Canoeing Championships among juniors and youth; teachers, students and graduates of Polytechnic accompanied veterans at the “The Strong of Ukraine” adaptive disciplines competition, and a freshman of FPCS became the European champion in canoeing among juniors and youth.
It should be recalled that the applicants of Poltava Polytechnic choose the specialities necessary for the post-war recovery of Ukraine.
