During August 29-30, on the basis of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, specialists of the Poltava regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine conducted the training “Management of the risk reduction process at the community level” for scientific and pedagogical workers of the Poltava Polytechnic. According to the head of the Poltava regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine Iryna Pliusnina, such educational events will certainly be useful to the civilian population and specialists in various fields, in order to minimize existing risks and help avoid the mass spread of panic attacks among citizens in case of man-made, natural and social threats.
During the two-day training, the participants studied the risk management matrix in detail, discussed a wide range of emergency situations, in the event of which the victims may need any assistance. Therefore, it is extremely important to be able to minimize risks and threats as well as help fellow citizens avoid mass panic.
The chief operational support specialist in the regions of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine Oleksii Birintsev shared key approaches on how to effectively organize the collection and systematization of information about existing threats and available resources, analyse the results obtained, and effectively use analytics for a qualified assessment of the actions of the aggressor state.
Participants worked in groups, created risk management tables and had an open dialogue with coaches. A risk matrix, combining two indicators (probability and action) to calculate the importance of a risk, allows you to decide which of the sets of possible risks receive priority. Great attention was paid to the discussion around the development of an actions algorithm for families in case of emergency situations, when each member of the family should be as clearly aware as possible of the procedure for performing certain actions on informing, possible evacuation through humanitarian corridors to the territories controlled by Ukraine. As an example, successful practical cases of the activity of mobile teams of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, which often work in increased danger situations, coordinating the activities of communities and individual settlements in the event of emergency situations, were cited. They also focused on nuclear threats, with which Ukrainians are systematically threatened by the aggressor country during a full-scale invasion, and worked out a number of actions in possible nuclear scenarios.
At the end of the training, the participants noted the high level of practicality of the event and wished that the acquired knowledge would be used as rarely as possible by citizens on a peaceful Ukrainian land.
According to Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Larysa Onishchuk, such trainings motivate us to think even more about the difficult challenges we may face today and the importance of the teachers’ role in such situations increases many times, as it is necessary to convey to absolutely every representative of the student body of the Poltava Polytechnic the awareness that every act must be thought out, and threats to life – reduced to a minimum.
“I am sincerely grateful to the coaches for the opportunity to gain new practical experience, because such trainings provide a great chance to analyse the information received and “turn on” critical thinking. I admire the relaxed format of teaching the material. We will certainly implement the acquired skills in the educational process when teaching professional disciplines, in particular occupational safety. I wish my colleagues peace and well-being!” – shared her impressions Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Physical therapy and Ergotherapy of the Poltava Polytechnic Liudmyla Kletsenko.
