“Science Bridge: Science for the Future of Ukraine”: Polytechnic scientists join the teleconference and take part in the all-Ukrainian flash mob

On 21 May, on the occasion of the Day of Science of Ukraine, a conference was held in the format of a teleconference “Science Bridge: Science for the Future of Ukraine”. The event was organised by the Council of Vice-Rectors for Scientific Work of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the Kharkiv IT Cluster.

Academic staff and business representatives joined the discussion of topical issues of science in Ukraine. The event brought together about 100 locations from more than 10 cities of the country. Scientists of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” also took part in the teleconference.

“Thank you, dear colleagues, for taking the time to join our teleconference dedicated to the Day of Science of Ukraine. In fact, the idea to hold this event appeared two weeks ago, but today we are already implementing it.

In fact, this event is extremely important. Although we live in the same country, each region has its own peculiarities, its own prospects, its own unique opportunities that should be developed for the sake of Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction. Today, more than 10 cities have joined the event, so everyone will have the opportunity to share their best practices and achievements.

We are organising the event together with Kharkiv IT Cluster. This is very important because today it is a very powerful partner of universities, allowing us to effectively implement and build communications between business and science, and we hope that this area will continue to grow,” said Volodymyr Pavlikov, Chairman of the Council of Vice-Rectors.

“On behalf of Kharkiv IT Cluster, I would like to congratulate everyone on the holiday!

Kharkiv IT Cluster is a huge community that today combines business, education and government. We unite more than 600 members and partners, including more than 60 universities and colleges from all over Ukraine. Our mission is to develop an ecosystem for technology business, in which education, science and innovation play a key role. That is why for over 9 years, we have been allocating at least half of our budgets and efforts to the development of education and science.

Today we do not ask “When is the Victory?”. We are part of the efforts that education, science and business are making to create innovations that will allow us to create asymmetric solutions to ensure our Victory. Today, the IT industry is almost fully integrated into the international market, and on the other hand, we rely on the potential and foundation provided by our highly expert educational environment.

Once again, I congratulate you on the holiday and invite higher education institutions and educators to join our cluster. All of our work is aimed at ensuring that when children choose where to live and build their careers, it is still Ukraine, because we are united, united in our desire to win,”  Olha Shapoval, Executive Director of Kharkiv IT Cluster, greeted the participants.

As part of the teleconference, a flash mob dedicated to Science Day was held, during which teams of scientists from different universities joined together to congratulate each other on their professional holiday. Higher education institutions from Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Dnipro, Poltava, Sumy, Lutsk, Kropyvnytskyi, Kryvyi Rih, Vinnytsia and Ivano-Frankivsk joined in the greetings.

The opening remarks were delivered by Oleksandra Antoniuk, Chairperson of the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine for Science and Technology, Ihor Tsependa, Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Oleksandr Aziukovskyi, Rector of the National Technical University “Dnipro Polytechnic”, and Kostiantyn Sukhyi, Acting Rector of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Acting Director of the Flight Academy of the National Aviation University Serhii Nedilko, Vice-Rector for Research of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Roman Hladyshevskyi, Vice-Rector for Research of Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University , Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr Ivanytsia, Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University Liudmyla Yelisieieva and Chairperson of the Council of Young Scientists of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, winner of the Presidential Award for Young Scientists,  Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Oleksandra Maslii.

“Dear speakers and guests of the important event dedicated to the Day of Science in Ukraine. Despite the martial law, large-scale shelling and active hostilities in our country, research activities continue, and a new generation of young, creative scientists is joining the ranks of professionals who are ready to work diligently to bring the Victory closer and restore our country after the war.

The beginning of the full-scale invasion dramatically changed the lives of millions. Key areas of scientific research have changed significantly. Young scientists have responded flexibly to the current challenges of martial law and have united to conduct research that is extremely important both for the present and for the post-war reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine.

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” became the only higher education institution in Poltava region to receive state funding since 2024, and to implement three projects of powerful teams of young scientists at once. Technologies will help bring the Victory closer, and scientific developments will help overcome the consequences of the war. Funding the research activities of young scientists is an investment in the future and is crucial for ensuring innovative economic development despite the war. We, young scientists, continue to develop the powerful scientific schools of Poltava Polytechnic, which are actively functioning despite the war. This allowed us to develop design and estimate documentation for construction works for the implementation of an important infrastructure project “Higher Education of Ukraine. Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development” funded by the European Investment Bank.

Based on the results of the developments of scientific schools of Poltava Polytechnic, the project is being successfully implemented, and construction works are already underway for the complex thermal modernisation of the university’s academic buildings and dormitories, which will help to reduce the burden on the state budget. This is extremely important in today’s environment, when the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the top priority for funding.

A modern, energy-efficient and comfortable university is a center for the formation of new generations of specialists and scientists that Ukraine needs to restore and ensure economic growth.

One of the major problems in Ukraine is that research and development is often carried out without taking into account market needs, and there are no links between universities and enterprises. Therefore, it is important to emphasise the importance of obtaining the final result of scientific activity and bringing the created scientific product to the market needs. Understanding this, the commercialisation of scientific and intellectual activity is an important result of effective research at Poltava Polytechnic. This is confirmed by the fact that over the last 5 years, Poltava Polytechnic has received almost UAH 500 million in revenues from institutions, enterprises, and organisations. It is worth mentioning that despite the war, the number of young scientists of Poltava Polytechnic is growing. An important factor of this is the state support of youth science, stimulation and motivation of young scientists. We have 25 winners of the Presidential Award for Young Scientists.

Thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, we stay in Ukraine, we teach in Ukraine and develop science in Ukraine. We are strong. We are unbreakable. Glory to Ukraine!” said scientist Oleksandra Masliі.

At the end of the conference, the scientists had a Q&A session.

It should be recalled that schoolchildren celebrated Science Day with Poltava Polytechnic during the Science Fiesta 2024, the 76th scientific conference of professors, teachers, researchers, postgraduate students and university students was held as part of the Science Festival, lyceum students celebrated Science Days with scientific and educational events with Poltava Polytechnic, and Ukrainian and foreign scientists discussed the formation of a security-oriented environment under martial law.
