Due to the imposed martial law and active hostilities on the territory of our country, professional scientific and educational communication was carried out by means of video conferencing on the Zoom platform. This format has already become familiar and easily allows scientists from the most remote corners of the world to be united in real time.

The conference was opened by Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Acting Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Work of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Vadym Vadimov and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of the Poltava Polytechnic Anna Aheicheva, who noted the relevance, scientific novelty and perspective of the presented linguistic researches.

“I am pleased that the scale and representation of conference participants is growing every year, among our colleagues, friends and partners – the Peace Corps, Santa Fe College, São Paulo State University, London Metropolitan University, Institute for the German Language, V. “It is extremely important that in such difficult times of war we develop science for future Victory and Peace, comprehensive development and prosperity of our country. Our fruitful scientific and educational cooperation with scientific institutions and scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, leading higher education institutions in Europe and the world covers a wide range of conducted researches, exchange of practical experience, conducting scientific and technical, educational and popular science events, a good example of which is, in particular, today’s conference. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the scientists on their professional holiday and wish them thorough and interesting researches, fruitful discussions, good health and strength for further significant scientific achievements and accomplishments, faith in our soonest Victory,” – congratulated the participants the head of the Poltava Polytechnic.

Over the course of two days, the conference participants discussed pressing issues of Germanic, Romance, and Slavic philology, translation studies, world literature in the context of intercultural communication, issues regarding translating literary texts, innovative approaches to teaching foreign languages and field translation, as well as exchanged experience in the field of humanitarian, pedagogical and of social sciences, determined the prospects of further scientific research in the specified areas. The working languages of the conference were Ukrainian, English, German, French, Polish.

Conference participants worked in four sections:

  • Section 2. Modern translation studies: issues and prospects;
  • Section 3. World literature in the context of intercultural communication. Issues of translation of literary text;
  • Section 4. Innovative approaches to teaching foreign languages and field translation.

It has already become a good tradition at the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the Poltava Polytechnic that scientific communication within the conference takes place with the involvement of traditional forms of academic communication – plenary meetings as well as innovative communicative approaches, successfully implemented in the work of the international discussion panel and the youth scientific platform. Scientific discussions and the work of the plenary session were moderated by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Oksana Vorobiova.

The exchange of experience is the key to the success of any business, it is undoubtedly very important for the successful educational activities implementation, especially amidst the constant rapid development of the latest teaching methods and technologies, the introduction of innovative approaches to teaching foreign languages. That is why the first report at the plenary session was devoted to the peculiarities of teaching interpreting and translation at the London Metropolitan University. Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and a leading specialist in translation research and teaching at this prestigious institution of higher education in Great Britain Nadia Rahab shared effective professional cases with the participants.

The speech of Dustin Fridkin, professor from Santa Fe College, reliable long-term partner of Poltava Polytechnic, was extremely interesting and relevant.

Continuing the topic of effective training and further employment of specialists in foreign philology and translation, regular participants of the conference and long-time friends of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy of Yuri Kondratyuk National University Svitlana Sharkova and David Manning, teachers of Santa Fe College, gladly shared their scientific and practical achievements, presenting a report on “Online resources for teachers of English as a foreign language”. The paradigm of reports dedicated to innovative approaches to foreign language teaching and field translation was successfully supplemented by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages of Podillia State University Iryna Humeniuk, who demonstrated on interesting empirical material, what effective communication strategies can be used in a wartime learning environment.

According to the Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Oksana Vorobiova the training of translators at the current stage requires them not only to have a high level of foreign and native languages proficiency, but also certain branch background knowledge, especially in cases of interdisciplinary and intra-industry terminological homonymy. “The necessary synergy of scientific and technical thought together with professional translation skills, which we actively introduce into the educational process, involving in professional communication during the training of those studying educational program “Field translation: English, German” scientists and manufacturers, in particular, those of the oil and gas industry, which is economically significant for the Poltava region. It has already become a good tradition at our faculty to invite professor Branimir Tsvetkovich, a leading scientist and consultant with a world name, and currently the Head of the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technologies of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, to communicate with philology students, who has, in an easy and accessible manner in English, explained sufficiently complex technical concepts and processes to future specialists in technical translation,” – commented the scientist.

Poetry always inspires, supports, gives strength to live and fight, especially now, in such difficult and at the same time crucial times for our country and the whole world. Liliia Bezuhla, a talented scientist and creative person, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor, professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, who spoke about the categories of lyrical and poetic text using the example of Masha Kaleko’s poetry, presented on session author’s collection of translations of this poetess.

A significant intensification of the scientists’ interest in the issues of journalistic prose is observed now against the background of the journalistic text genres set expansion, in particular, in media discourse, as well as the means of implementing this speech style, both verbal and non-verbal. Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of English Philology of the Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University Olha Zaluzhna presented the results of the research of the journalistic text discursive and functional-stylistic dimensions at the conference.

Today, the involvement of young people in the development of science is of undeniable importance, since it is their inexhaustible energy and inquisitive mind that can give this process speed, creativity and innovation. It was for this purpose that the youth scientific platform worked within the framework of the conference, which gathered postgraduate students, student youth of Ukraine and Europe at its venue. Students of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, students of lyceums, gymnasiums and schools of the city of Poltava and the region shared their own researches.

According to the Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Aheicheva, an extremely important factor for philological scientists was the all-round support of the university rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko for the humanitarian development vector, the full entry of Poltava Polytechnic into the European and world educational space, which is possible only under conditions of high-quality foreign language training of the future specialist, development of foreign philology, effective cross-cultural communication and translation studies.

“It is extremely symbolic that since the time of the Institute of Noble Girls, the legal successor of which is the Poltava Polytechnic, great attention has been paid to the humanitarianization of education and the study of foreign languages. It’s nice that this tradition is supported and continuously developed, already in view of modern innovative approaches!” – commented the head of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy.

At the end of the large-scale scientific event, scientists from different countries of the world noted the high level of the conference conduct, the relevance of the presented developments as well as agreed on further scientific and educational cooperation.
