Scientists of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology Department Branimir Cvetkovic and Director of Education and Production Center of Oil and Gas Petro Holub became speakers at the VII International Industry Forum “Increasing the Efficiency of Hydrocarbons Production at the Oil and Gas Fields of Ukraine” and presented successful cases of their own academic and research activities.
Professor of Oil and Gas Engineering and Technology Department of Poltava Polytechnic Branimir Cvetkovic is a professional with many years of experience of working with the leading international oil and gas companies and academic activity in Norway, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Ukraine delivered a presentation titled “Improving the technology of oil and gas exploration and production and its presentation in the educational process”, in which he shared his own view on the existing problems of the oil and gas field of Ukraine, emphasized the problem of lack of skilled workers, common for many European countries, the lack of theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for enhancing the efficiency level of production and usage of present resources, and the quality training of oil and gas specialists at Poltava Polytechnic.
“I believe that to achieve a maximally efficient production of oil and gas and gas condensate it is necessary to pay a lot of attention to integral research of primary and secondary formations and geophysical exploration. The process from exploration to production consists of many engineering processes, the knowledge of which are crucial for a modern engineering, driller, geophysicist or geologist.
“Analyzing the statistics, we can be see that the use of natural resources has grown at 161% for the last fifty years, and we continue consuming oil, gas and coal,” the scientist commented.
According to the Norwegian professor, the solution to the complicated situation in the oil and gas field is to find and develop new resources, and that involves finding new investors. The next stage of the process would be a high-quality staff potential, ready to study and work hard. Analyzing his own production experience of working at Schlumberger, the professor shared his successful cases on working with oil and gas wells. As the specialist believes, the future depends on the youth ready to face the new challenges, to constantly learn and improve their knowledge and soft skills.
High-quality specialist training at Poltava Polytechnic, involvement of leading teachers, holding integral research of the wells, attracting investments into the future of the industry is a key to success and dynamic development of the oil and gas field of Poltava region.

“This forum is not randomly held in Poltava, where 80% of Ukrainian gas is produced - and this is almost the whole production volume. In the 90s, when the oil and gas complex was working at its best, our country’s industry was in great need of high-qualified specialists, and today this problem is getting solved.
“As a result of close cooperation with Ukrainian and foreign oil and gas companies, our university has unique scientific and laboratory facilities, and the newly created Education and Production Center of Oil and Gas provides a wide range of works for companies, realizing the partnership formula “science + education + business + government”, which is the fundamental concept of our university's development. Within the VII International Industry Forum “Increasing the Efficiency of Hydrocarbons Production at the Oil and Gas Fields of Ukraine”, the specialists of the Association of Drillers of Ukraine and the Association of Geologists of Ukraine held a round table focused on the discussion of the concept for geological education in the 21st century and the ways of modernizing the educational programs for oil and gas specialists training.
