The June ride was dedicated to the Youth Day, which was celebrated this year on June, 28, because this is a great way of spending free time for youth; the ride helped popularize cycling among modern youth and encourage students to join the activity.
The heads and academic staff of the Departments of Sports, Physical Therapy, Ergotherapy, the representatives of the students’ self-government, cycling and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts participated in the bicycle ride. The column of participants was led by the Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko and the Director of Poltava Aviation and Aerospace Museum Andrii Pushkariov.
“It is a great pleasure to see that our academic staff live a healthy lifestyle, inspiring others by their example. We covered a big distance on bicycles, that is 30 km, but it didn’t stop us from playing football, basketball and volleyball. The energy boost and immunity improvement we got will allow us to work with new inspiration, pass exams and tests successfully, defend Bachelor’s theses and course projects. This way we are going to realize the state policy in Education and Science of Ukraine,” Rector of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko commented.
Rector proved the long-known wisdom, “a sound mind in a sound body”, with his example that day.
Students were eager to share their positive impressions on the day, they lacked such powerful positive emotions during the lockdown. Live communication, joined leisure, difficulties which had to be faced during the day, mutual support, the possibility to hold a game with the university rector - it all made for an incredible energy boost!
“I am glad that university pays such a great attention to the quality education and active students’ free time. It is so pleasant to be a part of the close team, that gives you the possibilities for self-development, bringing your ambitious plans and dreams into life. I am thankful to our Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko for the wonderfully spent time. Dreams come true with Poltava Polytechnic!” Liudmyla Bylym, second-year students of group 201SE, said.
Dmytro Kliuchka, student of group 301pNH added, “We got an incredible energy and positiveness boost, the activities after difficult exams allowed to get some new strength, spend time productively and usefully for our health. It’s cool that our university actively promotes healthy lifestyle and physical activity among students!”
The representatives of the student self-government do not stay away from supporting the initiatives of university administration. The Students’ Parliament and the Students’ Union make for productive students’ leisure, encouraging them to do sports in various clubs. By the way, Polytechnic has 27 sport clubs!
“We eagerly join the bicycle rides and are glad to see the number of participants growing every year. The youth can not always find a way to use their energy during the pandemic, and the sport events in the fresh air improve our productiveness, “giving us a second wind”. Our rector is an example of continuous self-improvement, training for body and spirit. I love doing sports, often go to the gym, but, to be honest, it was hard to follow the pace and keep up with Volodymyr Onyshchenko during the ride,” the Head of Students’ Union Committee of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic Oleksandr Drobotia commented.
“I am thankful to Rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko for the active support of students’ initiatives and for creating maximally safe conditions for the participants. We were accompanied by patrol cars of the National Police of Ukraine during the whole ride. We got unforgettable impressions from the ride through picturesque places of Poltava region, the football, basketball, and volleyball games, relaxed communication, true field cuisine which included barbecue and delicious Ukrainian varenyky. Thanks to everyone who joined us then and spend time with us!” the President of the Students’ Parliament Oleksandr Lytvynenko commented.
The Faculty of Sports led by its Dean Nataliia Beseda eagerly organize all the sport initiatives, introducing practical skills needed for learning specialized subjects into the studying process.
“During the ride, our students could not only improve their physical health and enjoy the scenery of Poltava. They had the chance to integrate the theory into practice in such subjects as Types of Recreational Physical Activities, Theory and Technology of Physical Activity, Basics of Recreational Tourism and Basics of Rational Nutrition. The sport games in fresh air, friendly atmosphere show that university gives an appropriate example for forming the wish of being successful, insistent and healthy,” the Dean of the Faculty of Sports of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic Nataliia Beseda commented.
“Such events allow to bring students closer to each other, help them improve their physical and mental health, study easily and usefully,” the Head of the Department of Sport and Sport Education of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Lina Rybalko said.
University promotes ecological transportation and recreational physical activity in all possible ways. Last year, the projects of building cycle lanes and paths started being considered at the local level. And the project of the graduate student of Education and Research Institute of Architecture and Construction Rostyslav Fedotov won the contest of bicycle parking projects and could become a single unified design for all the communal bicycle parking lots of Poltava.
It’s yet another example of how much the youth, especially the students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, care for the positive changes for healthy lifestyle and environment preservation.
