The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine continued cooperation with the Canadian organization “Mitacs”, entering into an Agreement on June 7, according to which “Mitacs” is to finance 600 research internships for Ukraine over the next three years.
Mitacs is a Canadian non-profit organization that helps students and researchers from different countries get a unique professional experience in Canada.
On September 6, a webinar on “How to get a Mitacs internship in Canada” was held. The initiator of Mitacs internships for Ukraine, a professor at the University of Toronto and a leading researcher of the quantitative research division of financial risks at SS&C Technologies Canada Oleksandr Romanko told about Mitacs opportunities for Ukrainians, how interns are selected and what the formats of research programs are. The coordinator of the program in Canada Olena Skalianska told participants about how to complete and submit documents for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship program and what awaits the selected interns in Canada. During the webinar, the participants learned about two other areas of internship for Ukrainian students and scientists:
- the Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) research grant program, which is intended for Ukrainians who are studying at a master’s, postgraduate, doctoral or postdoctoral level.
- the Mitacs Accelerate program, which allows master’s students, postgraduate students, doctoral students and postdoctoral students of Ukrainian universities to complete a paid internship at a Canadian company
The internship for students will last 12 weeks in 2023 at one of the Canadian universities. The “Mitacs Globalink Research Internship” program provides:

- transfer from the airport to the place of residence;
- housing and food stipend;
- Medical Insurance;
- enrollment at a Canadian university for the internship period;
- support of Canadian university student mentors;
- the possibility of attending events, workshops, seminars on professional development;
- a certificate confirming completion of the “Globalink Research Internship” program.
To participate in the “Globalink Research Internship” program, students submit the following documents:
- Online application for participation in the program.
