The purpose of the event was the exchange of experiences and opinions regarding the role of the university in the life of communities, the search for new mechanisms of the university's influence on the processes of reconstruction of cities destroyed as a result of the war and the development of the regions of Ukraine, as well as the search for a more optimal "symbiosis" of the "university-region".
Rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University Oleh Novomlynets made to participants of the roundtable a presentation "The role of the university in the life of the region".
During the event, each of the participants had the opportunity to tell about their achievements of higher education institutions in the life of the regions.
The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhii Shkarlet, opened the roundtable, focusing on the role of educators in general in overcoming crises caused by war, forming a model of resilience, actively participating in resolving the consequences of destruction and providing shelter for internally displaced persons. It is Serhii Mykolayovych who is the initiator and founder of the "University in the Life of the City" project, which was implemented more than 10 years ago in the city of Chernihiv. The Minister noted how flexibly educators respond to problems and how these phenomena directly affect the educational and scientific environment. Therefore, updating educational programs is a priority. The Minister stressed that the role of universities has changed today, and it will only grow in the conditions of war, thanked for the hard work, unity and dedication of educators who are holding their front in such a difficult time for Ukraine.
"Leading universities of Ukraine are actively working not only on the restoration of a full-fledged educational process and scientific activity, but also rethinking their potential in the reconstruction of the country.
I would like to thank my colleagues from Chernihiv Polytechnic and personally the rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University Oleh Oleksandrovych Novomlynets for the invitation to participate in the roundtable on the extremely relevant topic "The role of the university in the life of the region. The search for new mechanisms of influence of universities on the restoration and development of regions".
Colleagues from higher education institutions expressed their conviction that Ukraine is in dire need of engineering and technical as well as pedagogical personnel.
The activity of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", in particular, our humanitarian mission, was recently recognized by the Poltava community, the mayor personally awarded the team. Universities are not only educational and scientific centers of cities, where professionals and patriots of the native land are educated, but also large taxpayers who invest in the community. Thus, the strength of the university has a positive effect on the development of communities. Our university is one of the largest taxpayers to the budget of the Poltava community – about 40 million hryvnias per year, which are spent on the community’s development. Hence, the economic stability of higher education institutions is one of the key factors in the development of regions.
In our opinion, the primary task now is the proper organization of the admission campaign as well as the joining of efforts with local self-government bodies and regional authorities in order to create all the conditions for young people to choose to study in Ukraine.
We must popularize Ukrainian education as the best, the most powerful, and the uniqueness of each university.
The authorities of the region can improve the economic situation and take care of the human resources by forming a local order for the training of specialists, as well as by ordering advanced training services for already valid professionals. Universities are able to prepare community development programs, provide consulting and expert services.
"Our strength is in unity!", I support this slogan and wish all of us inspiration, peace, and Victory!
Glory to Ukraine!" – noted in his speech Rector of the Poltava Polytechnic Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
After all the discussions and reports, the draft resolution of the roundtable was adopted.
The day before, scientists determined the priorities and problems of rebuilding the destroyed infrastructure and honored the founder of the Ukrainian school of steel-reinforced concrete structures, and economists discussed the real challenges and threats to the sustainable development of Ukraine in the conditions of martial law.
