The annual contest “The Women of Power Engineering 2020”, founded by the non-government organization “Women Power Engineering Club”, was held for the second time. The contest makes for acknowledging the women’s contribution into the development of the power engineering field in Ukraine and for supporting them, motivating them for further achievements in the power engineering and similar spheres of economics, because the organizers are sure that women who work in the energy field of Ukraine can achieve any heights in their careers.
The winners were chosen in the three following nominations: “The Company of the Year”, “The Manager”, “The Politics Activist”, “The Worker”, “The Lawyer”, “the Volunteer”, “The Journalist” and “The Education Worker”. In total, the contest jury received 146 applications from participants. The awarding ceremony was held in a mixed form on November, 19, during the annual conference “Power Engineering Without Gender: Everyday Fight”.
The contest committee who chose the winners included Anna Dovhopol (Coordinator of the Gender Democracy Program of the Heinrich Boell Fund Kyiv Bureau, Urkaine), Svitlana Holikova (Member of Energetic Safety Project, USAID Ukraine) and Oleksii Riabchyn (Deputy Minister of Power Engineering and Environment Preservation of Ukraine).
Director of Poltava Oil and Gas College of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Liubov Shumska won in the nomination “The Education Worker”. As she said, getting acknowledgement in such a contest is really honorable, and the victory makes me motivated to work more for the education, both at university and at college.
“I have many colleagues who are great examples that women are wonderful specialists in the oil and gas field, and they prove that it is necessary to fight the stereotypes, not be afraid to develop oneself in career. My personal experience is a proof that more and more girls choose education and work in the oil and gas field with every year,” Liubov Shumska emphasized.
