On the basis of the Faculty of Humanities of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" within the framework of the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Actual Problems of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies", a meeting of the youth scientific platform was held, which was attended by young researchers from leading Ukrainian universities and general secondary education institutions of the Poltava region.
The future intellectual elite of Poltava region was congratulated by Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of Poltava Polytechnic Anna Aheicheva, who stressed the productivity of scientific meetings of this format, which allow modern youth to comprehensively reveal their own abilities and scientific interests.
According to Oksana Vorobiova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, active exchange of opinions will always contribute to communication and synergy between scientists of different age groups, generation of new creative ideas in academic and youth science.
The topics of the reports presented in Ukrainian, English and German concerned various branches of philological knowledge – literary studies, linguistics and translation studies. Experienced mentors advised young researchers, and the polishing of individual fragments of the speech often took a long period of time.
The report of a student of the second (master's) degree of higher education of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Iryna Lobko (supervisor – Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of Poltava Polytechnic Anna Pavelieva) concerned the English-language slang of computer games players. The author convincingly proved that "gamers" have their own language, which is, to some extent, universal and occurs in various genres of computer games.
All present listened with interest to the report "International elements in football terminology" by 9th-grade (9-С) pupil of Poltava Lyceum No. 17 "Intellect" Mykhailo Kobrys (supervisor – English teacher of Poltava Lyceum No. 17 "Intellect" I. S. Karpichenko), dedicated to international elements in football terminology. The author researched the terms that have become constant in football and on specific examples showed the features of football metalanguage.
The report of 11th-grade (11-K) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council Anna Moroz (supervisor – teacher of the Ukrainian language and literature, specialist of the highest category of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council N. I. Tykhonenko) was devoted to the problem of emancipation of Ukrainian womanhood of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the context of the world literary space. The pupil thoroughly researched the work of a whole galaxy of English and Ukrainian literature representatives, made a comparative analysis and outlined the problems that appeared in their literary work.
Second-year student of the Faculty of Humanities of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Yuliia Hordiievska presented a scientific paper "Realities in Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" (supervisor – Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation, Tetiana Kushnirova), in which she considered the realities in the work of the eminent English writer William Shakespeare. The student emphasized that these lexemes play an important role in the reproduction of the socio-historical and cultural context, give the national color of the text and that the reproduction of this category is very difficult for the translator.
The report of a 11th-grade (11-K) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of the Poltava City Council Anastasiia Lohinova (scientific supervisor – English teacher of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of the Poltava City Council O. I. Odom) was devoted to the topic of the barbarization of the English language on the material of Mario Puzo's work "The Godfather". The speaker highlighted in detail the peculiarities of the analyzed work, focusing on the topic of barbarization of language.
The report of a 9th-grade (9-A) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 Olha Kushnirova (supervisor – teacher of foreign literature, specialist of the highest category, teacher-methodologist of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council I. L. Chychkalo) was interesting in literary terms. The pupil researched the intermedial aspect of Roald Dahl's fairy tale "Matilda", compared the work of fiction and a film based on the book.
Student of the 4th academic year of the Faculty of Humanities Ania Reva (supervisor – Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Tetiana Kushnirova) focused the attention of those present on the peculiarities of the robotic neologisms translation in the prose of Isaac Asimov, noting that this author was the one at the origins of robotechnical terminology.
The theme of the work of 8th-grade (8-K) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council Mykhailo Popovych "Manga as one of the innovative approaches to learning foreign languages" (supervisor – foreign language teacher of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council S. S. Hryn) concerned modern methods of learning a foreign language, which involves the use of popular Japanese comics for educational purposes.
The report of the third-year student of the Faculty of Humanities Olha Lupai (supervisor – Candidate of Philology, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" Kateryna Palii) was devoted to the structural-semantic characteristics of the interior items names in the English and German languages.
Interesting in literary terms was the report of a 11th-grade (11-K) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council Victoriia Kholodenko (supervisor –English teacher of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council O. I. Odom), which revealed the lexical and stylistic features of the Gothic novel on the example of the famous work "Castle of Otranto".
The comparative research of Anna Diachenko, who is doing her second (master’s) degree at National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" (supervisor –Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Olena Dmytrenko) was marked the novelty, in which the researcher thoroughly analyzed the borrowings of the English vocabulary in the sports discourse of the German language.
The report of the 9th-grade (9-N) pupil of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council Daria Solodovnyk (supervisor – English teacher of the Scientific Lyceum No. 3 of Poltava City Council A. O. Koniakhina) had a translation basis and concerned the translation of metaphor in the literary text.
The report of the postgraduate student of the Department of Foreign Literature of the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University Yelyzaveta Kondrashova "Reflection of the poetic world and artistic images of Dylan Thomas in translation interpretations," was thorough in translation terms. The researcher analyzed in detail the features of Dylan Thomas's stylistics and the peculiarities of the transfer of his artistic concepts.
According to her, currently there are no Ukrainian translations of the works of this writer, which could inspire her to make her own attempt to interpret the poetry of D. Thomas.
"It is pleasant that our joint scientific and popular events as well as scientific and practical conferences motivate pupils and students of the town and Poltava region to look for new interesting topics for research, to work on their own scientific and cultural development and to communicate with experienced scientists on an equal basis.
