Criminologists and Mathematicians Discuss Data Analysis in Financial Fraud

On November 26, teachers of Further and Applied Mathematics Department and IT specialists of Poltava Scientific Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine held a joined scientific webinar titled “The modern methods of data processing” for the students of Education and Research Institute of Information Technology and Mechanotronics (ERIITM) of our university.

Criminologists and Mathematicians Discuss Data Analysis in Financial Fraud

Within the Memorandum on Cooperation and Partnership with Poltava Scientific Forensic Center (PSFC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ukraine, academic staff of Further and Applied Mathematics supported their traditions and held another joined scientific webinar. The webinar “Mathematical criminology: mathematical methods, problems and technologies” held at the end of October started a lively discussion, as the problem of how to make sage purchases over the Internet worried everybody, both the youth and the older generations.

Deputy Director of PSFC of MIA of Ukraine, Head of Criminology Investigation Department Olena Sakhnenko and high-qualified experts of the institution Ihor Volkodav, Yaroslav Kolisa and Klavdiia Solovchuk joined the event.

The graduate students of specialization No. 113 Applied Mathematics of ERIITM delivered presentations about data processing and analysis and big data together with the specialists. The event was moderated by Olha Marchyshenets and Nataliia Ichanska, and technical support was provided by Dmytro Abrakhmanov and Oleksandr Puzyr.

In total, 65 participants joined the event, including the first-year and the graduate students of specializations No. 113 Applied Mathematics, No. 122 Computer Sciences, No. 123 Computer Engineering, No. 174 Telecommunication, as well as the members of the student mathematical club of our university and the school students of Poltava.

The participants were greeted by Deputy Director of PSFC of MIA of Ukraine, Head of Criminology Investigation Department Olena Sakhnenko and PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of Further and Applied Mathematics Department of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Nataliia Ichanska.

The invited speakers covered such topics as database management, technologies of data processing and analyses and the tools used for such processes.

Student of group 601PM of ERIITM, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Roman Kyzymenko presented his own achievements in the research titled “Data processing in a modern CRM system”.

Student of group 601PM of ERIITM, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Liudmyla Moskalets presented her article titled “Big Data: modern methods and techniques of big data analysis”.

Nataliia Ichanska (PhD, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of Further and Applied Mathematics Department, National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”) shared interesting life hacks in solving practical problems with the help of information technologies.

IT students also learned about the mathematical methods of phone-related crime investigation and the use of IT and mathematical modelling in forensic examinations.

Joined scientific seminars and internships for students of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” at PSFC of MIA of Ukraine will be held further within the cooperation between the establishments.
