Scientific reports revealed the seven main topics of the conference – environmental safety management; environmental protection technologies, biodiversity and reservation affairs; the current state and prospects for the development of environmental education; alternative energy and decarbonization; environmental problems of the regions; problems of environmental economics and balanced nature management.
The conference was solemnly opened by the head of the conference organizing committee – Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Work, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Svitlana Sivitska, who congratulated the participants on the change of the status of the conference to an international one and read off the welcome speech of the rector of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
“Congratulations on the expansion of the circle of participants – our colleagues from different parts of the world have joined, since the problems we are working on within the framework of the conference are, without exaggeration, global. By combining efforts, scientific potential and practical experience, we can develop solutions and proposals that will positively affect the situation with the preservation of the environment. Thank you for your cooperation and we wish you produce new interesting ideas and reach success in your scientific activities,” – wished Svitlana Sivitska.
Deputy heads of the organizing committee – Head of the Department of Heat and Gas Supply, Ventilation and Thermal Power Engineering of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, Professor Yurii Holik together with Head of the Department of Applied Ecology and Nature Management of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Stepova made congratulatory speeches, highlighting the history of the training of specialists in the energy sector and the development of the Department of Applied Ecology and Nature Management of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”.
Practical cases were presented by the Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Ecology and Nature Management of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, Candidate of Technical Sciences Oksana Illiash and Head of the Department of Housing and Communal Affairs of the Poltava Regional State Administration Eduard Reva, revealing the importance of developing a Regional Waste Management Plan in the Poltava Region until 2030. Scientists, representatives of the executive power and territorial communities worked on the development, taking into account the indicators of waste generation and the most effective methods of their collection, storage, further utilization and processing, jointly determining where landfills, waste sorting and processing facilities should be located.
“The regional plan should become a working tool, thanks to which we will be able to launch the waste management system. The basic version is adopted for the region with reference to new administrative districts. From the point of view of administrative and financial efficiency, organizing a waste management system within new districts is a big plus. The Lubny-Pyriatyn cluster includes 8 communities. There is only one difference here – based on technical and economic indicators, we consider it appropriate to include the Romodan community in this cluster, even though it is administratively part of the Myrhorod district. At the territorial level, the document received all the approvals of specialized bodies and services. The priorities of the Regional Plan are the organization of management of all waste types, the creation of infrastructure for the processing of priority types, their recycling, and the step-by-step implementation of the waste management hierarchy. After the SEA procedure is completed and the document is approved, territorial communities will be able to use it during the development of local waste management plans,” – emphasized Oksana Illiash.
In the summer, the procedure of the strategic environmental assessment of the Regional Waste Management Plan in the Poltava region was completed. We are currently awaiting conclusions from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
“While developing the Solid Household Waste Management Strategy in Poltava Subregion in 2015, we started cooperation with GIZ. It is currently ongoing. Thanks to the scientists of Poltava Polytechnic for their work. Currently, small practices are implemented on the territory of the region, in the future we would like to scale up the results. There is still much work to be done to succeed in managing waste, extracting energy from it, and transferring it to provide utilities. In addition, high-quality waste management means clean territories and, accordingly, high-quality drinking water and the health of the population,” – noted Eduard Reva.
The technical advisor of the Global Project “Supporting the Initiative for the Export of Environmental Protection Technologies” in the Poltava region, Petro Peretiatko, continued the topic by presenting a report on the project “Supporting the Initiative for the Export of Environmental Protection Technologies”. He emphasized that Poltava region is the only region in Ukraine that participates in the global project “Supporting the initiative to export environmental protection technologies”, which is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) in India, Egypt and Jordan.
National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” as a modern university of the European model, successfully combining educational, scientific and innovative activities, ensures its contribution to the formation of an energy-efficient economy in Ukraine. Scientists of the Poltava Polytechnic, in fruitful cooperation with stakeholders, created three modern educational programs at the bachelor’s and master’s level in the field of renewable energy. Deputy Director of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas for Ecology and Renewable Energy at National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Andrii Zakrevskyi presented the issue of creating educational programs for the provision of renewable energy facilities.
Scientists, postgraduate students and students of the Educational and Research Institute of Oil and Gas, as well as the Educational and Research Institute of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Land Management presented reports on environmental protection technologies in the oil and gas industry and the construction industry.
In total, conference participants listened to 57 scientific reports, which will be included in the collection of conference materials.
Recently, scientists and stakeholders named the eco-professions of the future – teachers and students of the Department of Applied Ecology and Nature Management of the Poltava Polytechnic became participants of the All-Ukrainian Congress for future ecologists – the interaction platform “Eco-professions of the future – the future of eco-professions”, organized by the Professional Association of Ecologists of Ukraine.
