The meeting was held with the participation of People’s Deputies of Ukraine – members of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Education, Science and Innovation: Yuliia Hryshyna, Volodymyr Voronov, as well as People’s Deputies of Ukraine from Poltava region and Kharkiv region – Andrii Bobliakh and Oleksii Krasov, rectors of higher education institutions of Poltava region along with heads of universities and colleges relocated to Poltava region.

The academic year in educational institutions will last from September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The main issue at the moment is security. Therefore, educational institutions of the Poltava region plan to introduce a blended form of education – offline and online. The head of the military administration emphasized that the joint task of different government levels is to give access to education to all children: those who live in Poltava region, those who have left for another region or country, and immigrants living in the region.

“We are preparing for a blended form of education. There are supporters of both face-to-face and distance learning. And we see this in the results of surveys conducted among students’ families in many parts of the region. The joint task of different levels of government is to provide access to education for all children. To those who live in Poltava region, to those who left for another region or country, and to those who came to us. Of course, in offline education, the safety of children comes first. The shelters should have heat, light, water and everything for a comfortable stay during an air raid alert,” – said Dmytro Lunin.

People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yuliia Hryshyna emphasized the importance of ensuring the beginning of the educational process while observing the principles of education safety and quality.

“In the new academic year, the safety of participants in the educational process and the quality of education are above all else!

Education in higher education institutions will start approximately on August 15, at least at the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” this date has been determined and we have informed the students of 2-4 academic years. For first-year students, the educational process will start a little later – from September 19. Poltava universities are introducing a mixed form of education, classes will take place in face-to-face format, first of all, for high-tech specialties that are extremely difficult to master remotely, but given the security situation.

Among the urgent needs are taking into account the opinion of participants in the educational process, making changes to state regulations to speed up funding for shelter repairs, and regular safety training.

Thanks to colleagues, leaders and parliamentarians for constructive dialogue and support! Science and education despite the war for a successful future of Ukraine!” – commented rector Volodymyr Onyshchenko.

How a specific kindergarten or school will work will be determined by pupils, their parents, and communities. It is also important to find a place to accommodate internally displaced persons who were located in educational institutions in order to have time to make repairs and prepare for the new academic year.
