Faculty of Humanities Holds Virtual Exchange with Santa Fe College

Teachers and students of Faculty of Humanities participated in the virtual academic exchange titled “Virtual Exchange: Cultural perspectives of the USA and Ukraine”. The American partners of our university from Santa Fe College shared the most recent tendencies in youth's science, practical education cases, and held a series of motivational meetings with students.

Faculty of Humanities Holds Virtual Exchange with Santa Fe College

In February and March, Faculty of Humanities held a virtual academic exchange titled “Cultural Perspectives of the USA and Ukraine”. It was organized by National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Santa Fe College within the Global Conversations project.

The goal of the project was to create favorable conditions for creative professional activity of future young scientists, hold motivational meetings with American students, exchange experience and creative ideas, help the student youth get acquainted with the results of recent research and the newest tendencies in different branches of knowledge. Around thirty teachers and students of Poltava Polytechnic and Santa Fe participated in the project. The participants had a great opportunity to exchange experience and present the best projects for youth that were successfully implemented at higher education institutions, in their towns or regions.

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” and Santa Fe College had been fruitfully cooperating in the education and science fields, organizing joined workshops, meetings and discussions. At the beginning of last year, Dean of Faculty of Humanities Anna Ageicheva visited Santa Fe College within an academic exchange program and shared her own teaching experience, attended lectures and seminars of American colleagues, learned about the contents and the form of educational courses, teachers’ working methods, the organization of the education process and the research activity there.

American and Ukrainian students exchanged experience and delivered short presentations according to the topic of the project in several working sessions. The work was moderated by tutors Anna Ageicheva, Yuliia Hunchenko, Vilma Fuentes and Jessica Cassidy.

The American teachers mentioned the high level of language knowledge, the readiness to communicate professionally, to work hard, to use the experience of predecessors and to produce creative ideas, which they noticed in our students during the exchange.

The experience of holding such exchanges is not new for our teachers-philologists, who use all the opportunities to learn about new services and online platforms to help students stay motivated. At the end of March, scientists of Faculty of Humanities discussed effective innovative technology and the problems of motivation for studying during the pandemic together with experts from Cambridge university, exchanged the experience of teaching foreign languages at webinars from the British Council and learned innovative methods of teaching during the Global Teacher’s Festival, focused on the recent problems of teaching English as a foreign language.

“The virtual exchange program is a great chance to not only get the experience of talking to native speakers, but also to see something new, improve the language skills, learn another culture and find new friends. Student exchanges are very popular in the United States of America and the European countries, and our university actively joins such projects. Student years can be unforgettable; the most important thing is to use the wide opportunities and the advantages of studying at university,” PhD in Pedagogy, Dean of Faculty of Humanities of National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Anna Ageicheva commented. The call for applications to American scholarship programs for students, scientists and teachers to study, do internships and research in the USA, is now opened.

At the end of November, teachers of Faculty of Humanities of Poltava Polytechnic held a meeting titled “Explaining Elections 2020” with international partners from the USA, Brazil, Egypt and the UK.
