National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” is one of the first leading universities of Ukraine to sign such a memorandum on cooperation and join the fight against cyber crime.
“The goal of signing the Memorandum on Cooperation is to increase the efficiency of the cyber crime counteraction. Our university represents the interests of the state, realizes the state policy in education and science, trains specialists in information technologies, that is why we see our mission in supporting the cyber crime counteraction, as well as in protecting the state education institutions from unfair competition and criminal actions, and in forming a safe virtual environment,” the Rector of Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko commented
The Department of Cyber Police ensures the implementation of state policy in the cyber crime prevention, develops and successfully introduces in practical police activity the modern methods of revealing, recording and studying cyber crimes concerning unauthorized access to informational resources with limited access.
“Our other goals are to increase students’ juridical education, improve their practical skills, as well as extend the potential of our personnel, which will in its turn contribute to forming safe cyber space of our country. The Education and Research Institute of Information Technology and Mechanotronics which is a part of the university structure specializes in training highly professional specialists of the field.
We have all seen proof to the quotation that says, “Theory is dead without practice, and practice is blind without theory.” It is important to receive good theoretical knowledge, but it’s even more essential to apply them in practical activity,” Oleksandr Vedmidskyi commented.
The cooperation with the Department of Cyber Police of the National Police of Ukraine allows students to have practice, internships and further professional education. The Memorandum includes holding tutorials and practical courses at the university, in which the cyber police workers can exchange experience with the students. The best university students can take part in the internships at the Department of Cyber Police of the National Police of Ukraine, and then they can work for the internal affairs bodies if they wish.
Oleksandr Vedmidskyi also spoke about the possibilities for academic staff and graduates of the Education and Research Institute of Information Technology and Mechanotronics to become special agents of cyber police. They would need to pass testing and if they have excellent results, the cyber police will invite them to cooperate.
