The Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with Charity fund “Human”, NGO “International Foundation of Development” and NGO “Innovative University” started a training course that brought together participants from different parts of Ukraine to solve today's urgent problems – how to ensure psychological readiness of the civilian population to act in military conditions, how to provide an optimal algorithm of actions in difficult situations, how to contribute to solving problems that may arise during military operations.

National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” was represented by the Head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy – Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation Anna Pavelieva, who successfully completed online training, passed the test and received a course coach certificate.

The main goal of the training course was to ensure the psychological readiness of the citizens of our country to act in war conditions, to provide them with an optimal algorithm of actions in difficult situations, to help solve problems that may arise during military operations, since the occupiers violated all possible laws of warfare and international norms law, the population of Ukraine was faced with the need to acquire new knowledge and practical skills aimed at survival in war conditions under various circumstances.

According to the Head of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Olesiia Vashchuk, the main task of psychological training of the civilian population is the formation and improvement of psychological readiness, increasing readiness for action in military conditions by developing physical and special qualities, mastering and enhancing skills and abilities, increasing resistance of the organism to the influence of adverse factors in wartime conditions.

During May 2-8, experienced experts conducted intensive online training classes for the civilian population, which included theoretical training and effective practical advice. Training participants spent more than a month studying the provided methodical materials, successfully passed the test and received coaches’ certificates.

The scientists presented interesting reports and analyzed real situations of application of the acquired knowledge in practice. In particular, Victoriia Lemeshchenko-Lahoda, a teacher at Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University (Melitopol), presented the speech “Life in the occupation. Psychology of struggle”, and from her own experience told about the peculiarities of life in the occupation and methods of survival and resistance. The speaker spoke about the obstacle complexes as well as EW complexes used by the occupiers in Melitopol, about how to act in case of lack of mobile communication, about the actions of the population in case of detection of hit squads, rules of conduct in the occupied territories, etc.

The participants of the training course learned how to distinguish between information and misinformation, learned about the algorithms of actions with explosive devices (types of mines and demining zones), and most importantly – drew up and presented plans of their own actions in case of dangerous and unusual situations (coach – teacher of Dmytro Motornyi Tavria State Agrotechnological University Viktoriia Lemeshchenko-Lahoda).

The Head of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Olesia Vashchuk made a report “Actions of the population during shelling with small arms; during heavy artillery fire; during shelling by volley fire systems”, and the secretary of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Andrii Khorolskyi presented the reports “Actions of the population during a chemical attack”, “Emergency first aid” and told the audience about official reports about a chemical attack, signs of use of chemical weapons, primary actions in the zone of chemical damage, symptoms of chemical damage, evacuation from the zone of damage by chemical weapons and about the most famous poisonous substances.

The speaker also familiarized the training participants with the topic “Psychological training and actions of the civilian population in war conditions (Physical training)” as well as talked about stress, the main ways to reduce its negative impact, overfatigue and the main methods of its prevention, key symptoms of a panic state and methods of combating it, the state of apathy and ways to overcome it, about feelings of guilt and the importance of psychological support in war conditions.

According to Anna Pavelieva, in these difficult, far from peaceful realities, it is extremely important to clearly know how to behave, act and prevent the grave consequences of military actions. “Unfortunately, you have to learn new skills, work out practical cases and communicate with people who have already found themselves in similar circumstances. We believe that such experience will help secure the lives of our friends and loved ones, support the morale of colleagues and acquaintances. I plan to promptly share the acquired knowledge and motivate the student youth, the academic community of the university to study at this educational course,” – the scientist shared.

Previously, the scientist of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation became a participant in the training under the “Active Citizens” program of the British Council in Ukraine, was elected as the coordinator of external communications at the European Council of Postgraduate Students, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists, became a participant of the Erasmus+ event dedicated to the art of dialogue, became a member of the jury of the scientific projects on academic integrity competition; and the Polytechnic scientists took part in a webinar dedicated to mobility projects during the war.
