In January and February, scientists of National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” were improving their skills of using the updated interface of the Web of Science Core Collection platform, working at the scientist author profiles, learning about the possibilities of the EndNote reference manager in the series of webinars by Clarivate Analytics announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Academicians of Faculty of Humanities, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Tetiana Kushnirova, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Anna Pavelieva and Teacher of Germanic Philology and Translation Department Svitlana Halaur joined the winter series of webinars. The new possibilities for scientific communication were also studied by a scientist of Education and Research Institute of Architecture, Construction and Land Management, PhD in Engineering, Associate Professor of Construction and Civil Engineering Department Oleksandr Zyma.
Registered participants could receive certificates if they met the only requirement of participation in 90% of lectures, and get encouraging prizes during quizzes.
“During the webinars, we acquired new practical skills of working with the updated interface of the Web of Science Core Collection. We learned how to format and edit searches on certain topics, make shortenings and replacements, safe results; covered the use of special symbols, learned about the rules of formatting the reference lists for articles.
We talked about the updated functions of the Web of Science Core Collection that were added in January, 2021; discussed the ways to improve the skills of working with the platform in the new interface and the issues of analyzing, saving, editing the received data, creating and saving reports, using advanced search to solve more complicated search tasks. We are going to use the new skills in our scientific activity and in work with students, because there are never too much useful knowledge!” Doctor of Philology, Professor of Germanic Philology and Translation Department at National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Tetiana Kushnirova commented. Last year, philologists participated in the webinars dedicated to academic honesty and the application of scientometrics for successful scientific activity.
Teachers of leading Ukrainian higher education institutions discussed the peculiarities of the development of open access and the changes that caused publication and spreading of the results of scientific research. The lecturer - Expert for Informational and Analytical Resources and Education of Clarivate Iryna Tykhonkova - spoke about the ten principles of the S plan and the readiness of Ukrainian higher education institutions and scientific establishment to implement them, about possibilities and challenges of open access, journals of open access, the cost of scientific publications in international editions.
