National University ''Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic'' was included in the list of participating universities of the first stage and in July this year signed a contract with Gopa Infra (Germany), which was selected as a Design and Supervision Consultant and within the project.
"This is a long-awaited project that should improve the quality of stay of all participants in the learning process in classrooms, educational buildings and dormitories. We must turn to European standards and conditions. Energy modernization of all educational buildings and dormitories with the involvement of European companies and experts will create the best conditions for students and lecturers in the Poltava region.
Investments in comprehensive energy-efficiency renovation of buildings will help to significantly reduce heating and electricity costs, provide comfortable conditions for the educational process and student living, and the savings will be directed to the development of material, technical and research base.
A significant reduction in energy consumption has already been achieved, thanks to energy efficiency measures developed by our specialists, as well as the amount of business investment over the past 5 years in the development of the university's laboratory base was calculated. We have excellent results of cooperation with business, and for a bank that decides to invest as well as considers opportunities for other projects, this is an important indicator. Therefore, we presented various aspects of the university's activities," – commented the rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko.
Complex thermal modernization of higher education institutions of Ukraine is carried out within the project "Higher Education of Ukraine". The European Investment Bank (EIB) is investing 120 million euros in the complex thermal modernization of Ukrainian universities within the framework of joint EIB and EU support to Ukraine in the field of energy efficiency. The project is also co-financed by the Northern Environmental Finance Corporation (NEFCO) in the amount of 30 million euros.
"The European Investment Bank is the largest development bank in the world. Since 2019, a new bank's policy has been adopted – we refused to finance the oil and gas sector and instead focused on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, as well as created a separate specialized department. We have big loans and projects. Now we have the largest of the recently signed projects – with Ukraine: 300 million euros for energy efficiency of public buildings. Another 120 million euros is for the project "Higher Education of Ukraine" and one more promising project is planned with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The project for universities is considered as a set of activities that are important for improving the quality of education. It is good that business is actively investing in your university. This is an indication that they see you as a professional partner. Therefore, that is a bonus for us, but our investments can be much larger. From a technical point of view, we pay special attention to important components that are not visible – heating systems, electrical systems, fire safety, air conditioning systems, so that all this is done qualitatively. We also suggest using the project to educate students studying relevant technical specialties, to introduce new technologies and materials," – said Oleksandr Antoniuk, manager of the project "Higher Education Project of Ukraine", representative of the European Investment Bank, responsible for the energy sector of the Eastern Partnership countries.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Expert Group of the International Technical Assistance Project "Technical Support in the Implementation of the project "Higher Education of Ukraine" Andrii Mitsai; Deputy Head of the Expert Group, Key Finance Expert of the International Technical Assistance Project "Technical Support in the Implementation of the project "Higher Education of Ukraine" Dmytro Yemelianenko; Administrator of the International Technical Assistance Project "Technical Support in the Implementation of the project "Higher Education of Ukraine" Polina Diakonova; First Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching and Economic Development Olena Filonych and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Heat and Gas Supply, Ventilation and Heat Power Engineering Anatolii Koliienko, who specializes in long-term investment projects in the implementation of the concept of energy efficiency of higher education institutions.
The parties discussed promising areas for deepening cooperation for the short and long term. Representatives of the working group visited the university campuses.
Recently, scientists of Poltava Polytechnic shared practical cases and scientific developments in the field of sustainable nature management, solid waste management and energy efficiency.
