The scientist takes part in a webinar on Supporting Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions in Times of War

The head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the Poltava Polytechnic Anna Pavelieva took part in a webinar from the Erasmus+ community dedicated to the support of higher education institutions of Ukraine in wartime conditions. Participants from more than 25 countries of the world discussed the possibilities of supporting Ukraine.

On July 7, 2022, the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, European Association for International Education, German-Ukrainian Academic Society, Leibniz University Hannover and Erasmus Student Network Ukraine in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union in Ukraine and the National Erasmus+ Agencies of the Programme member countries conducted the International Contact Webinar: Supporting Ukraine in Higher Education. The large-scale scientific event was aimed at establishing and strengthening cooperation between Ukrainian and European universities.

More than 250 representatives from more than 25 countries of the world took part in the webinar, scientists from Ukraine, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Turkey shared their own vision of solving the problems of supporting higher education in the conditions of full-scale war in our country. Representatives of the European Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA), the EU Delegation, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and other international organizations, institutions of higher education and institutions of primary vocational and technical education, Erasmus+ coordinators, representatives of international cooperation departments, who expressed full support for our country in plans for restoring peace and rebuilding destroyed cultural-historical, civil and industrial sites, developing the scientific sphere and higher education institutions.

National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic" was represented at the event by the head of the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Philology, Psychology and Pedagogy, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology and Translation of the Poltava Polytechnic Anna Pavelieva, who became an active participant in the webinar and plans to implement the knowledge gained in her own everyday professional activity.

The event consisted of 4 parts:

  1. Panel discussion on supporting Ukraine through networking and international cooperation within the Erasmus+ Programme;
  2. Work in various thematic groups;
  3. Group summary;
  4. A session of speed meetings to build new contacts (Speed Networking).

Participants were greeted by sector manager of the EU Delegation in Ukraine Vira Rybak, state expert of the Expert Group on European Integration of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Shkabko, and representative of the European Agency for Education and Culture (EACEA) Lucia Glannini.

The panel session was attended by Michelle Stewart, Laura Rumbley, European Association for International Education, Oksana Seumenicht, German-Ukrainian Academic Society, Nataliya Butych, Leibniz University Hannover, coordinator of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine Svitlana Shytikova, who presented opportunities for cooperation and mutual support with Ukrainians within joint initiatives.

During the first panel session, the coordinator of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine Svitlana Shytikova, presented a brief overview of the state of Ukrainian higher education institutions during the war, the results and losses, highlighted the key challenges and ways of helping the European Erasmus+ community to Ukrainian colleagues and partners. The speaker also presented open opportunities for cooperation with Ukrainian organizations within the EU Erasmus+ Programme.

While working in various thematic groups on the topic of Erasmus+ cooperation in the areas of mobility, cooperation projects and Jean Monnet, the participants listened to the key features of partnerships and jointly developed the basic requirements for partnerships, including the requirements of the Programme, national peculiarities, wartime restrictions, needs, challenges and ways to solve them, summing up at the general session.

At the end of the event, all participants were able to take part in a speed meeting session in order to find new contacts and communicate.

Previously, the head of the Council of Young Scientists of the FFPP took part in a webinar from the Erasmus+ community dedicated to higher education in Ukraine in wartime conditions, became a certified coach of the course "Psychological preparation and actions of civilians in wartime conditions", and underwent the training under the "Active Citizens" program from the British Council in Ukraine, was elected coordinator of external communications at the European Council of Postgraduate Students, Doctoral Students and Young Scientists, became a participant in an Erasmus+ event on the art of dialogue, joined the jury of the academic integrity research project competition, and scientists of the Polytechnic took part in a webinar dedicated to mobility projects during the war.
