University scientist becomes a speaker at TESOL24 International Conference on Teaching Foreign Languages

Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of Poltava Polytechnic Tetiana Korol became a speaker at the International Conference TESOL24 International Convention & Expo “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages”. The scientist presented the results of her research in the field of dynamic control of English competence in reading professional literature by students of non-linguistic specialities.

University scientist becomes a speaker at TESOL24 International Conference on Teaching Foreign Languages

Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of General Linguistics and Foreign Languages of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic” Tetiana Korol made a presentation at the TESOL24 International Convention & Expo “Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages”, the biggest event in the field of English language teaching methods in the world, which was held this year on March 21-23 in Tampa, Florida, USA.

A Poltava Polytechnic scientist presented the results of her own research in the field of dynamic assessment of ESP students’ reading competence in reading professional literature. The conference also featured a presentation of the joint creative work of the participants of the “International Exchange Project: English Language Teaching Professional Development for Ukrainian Educators” and the collective monograph “Digital Technologies for Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language” were presented.

The event brought together about 8,000 leading experts from over 100 countries to discuss key issues and trends in teaching English as a foreign language for three days. The conference participants had the opportunity to attend lectures and masterclasses by invited speakers: T. Farrell, E. McKay, H. Pekar, S. Bell, J. Casper, L.-P. Herrera, K. Kum and many others, to get acquainted with modern methodological developments from such well-known companies as Ellii, National Geographic, Wiley, Pearson, Duolingo, etc., to communicate with like-minded people in a relaxed atmosphere that promotes further professional development and generates creative ideas.

It should be noted that the annual TESOL conference brings together professionals, researchers and teachers of English from many countries around the world. The participation of the Ukrainian delegation in this important event was supported by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the US Embassy in Ukraine. The purpose of the conference is to exchange ideas, experiences, trends and developments in language teaching and curriculum. The presentations covered various areas of teaching English as a foreign language: innovative methods and technologies for teaching foreign languages, digital learning, intercultural communication, assessment of speaking skills, subject-integrated English language teaching, and the use of artificial intelligence in the process of learning foreign languages. According to the participants, live communication with educational professionals from different countries during international conferences is an extremely important step in their personal and professional growth, allowing them to successfully implement the best foreign educational practices.

University researcher Tetiana Korol expresses her sincere gratitude to Regional English Language Office of U.S. Embassy Ukraine and NGO FHI360 for the opportunity to join such a significant event as well as to the administration of the National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”, represented by Rector, Professor Volodymyr Onyshchenko, for the constant and comprehensive support of international educational initiatives.

Earlier, a Polytechnic scientist successfully completed an international internship at leading American educational institutions, held a master class for English teachers, and developed a teaching aid for foreign language teachers.

Recently, the Polytechnic scientist took part in workshops on open science in the Netherlands and Belgium, and she participated in a workshop on managing internationalisation and Ukrainian-German academic cooperation at a leading European university, a Polytechnic scientist became a finalist of the “Open World” Programme from the US Congress and shared her expectations from participating in the project, a Polytechnic scientist attended three scientific events in Prague dedicated to the evaluation of research and research grants.
