Partners of the National University "Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic", Ukrainian-Danish Youth House invites gifted pupils and talented students of Poltava region to join the wandering "Photo Workshop of Meaningful Stories", which will include a series of interactive workshops on photography, visual storytelling and public communications. Participants of the Photo Workshop will gain basic skills in creating socially important stories, high-quality photo content using a regular smartphone. The locations will be Poltava, Cherkasy and Ivano-Frankivsk.
"We travel around Ukraine to destroy visible and invisible social, cultural, linguistic and many other human-created barriers that we face almost every day. The importance of our project is in popularizing the art of photography, thanks to which it is possible not only to tell people's stories, but also to help them be heard and understood," – emphasize the organizers.
"Photo Workshop of Meaningful Stories" is an intensive workshop from the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House, where everyone will be able to learn the art of photography and tell socially important stories about ordinary people using their own smartphone or camera. Trainers and participants will discuss the most important aspects of photography: how to choose the right lighting, how to convey the appropriate atmosphere in the photo, and etc.
Apply if:
- you live in Poltava, Cherkasy or Ivano-Frankivsk region;
- you are studying at a university or senior classes/high school of general secondary education institutions of the respective region;
- you like to take photos and strive to learn how to do it even better and more professionally;
- you have a smartphone or personal camera;
- you seek to "immerse yourself" in the subject of personal and social boundaries.

In Poltava, Cherkasy and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, the organizers will select a total of 25 participants, both lads and lasses who will:
- undergo a two-day intensive (two full days) of photo storytelling by Ukrainian photographer Serhii Korovainyi;
- learn firsthand about the life and work of Danish photographer Nicolai Linares and his winning photo from the Black Lives Matter demonstration;
- join the young leaders community of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House.
The term of the Photo Workshop is November 6-21, 2021.
The main location for the Poltava "Photo Workshop" during November 6-7 will be the Regional Youth Center, located at: Poltava, vul. Mishchenko, 2, from 10:00 to 18:00.
The organizers will cover the costs of meals for participants, as well as, if necessary, cover the costs of accommodation and transportation for participants from other towns/villages in the area.
Among the participants who will have underwent the two-day intensive, will choose 5 people from Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk and Cherkasy regions, who:
- create and present their own photo stories, which will be part of the exhibition program of the Youth House;
- receive mentoring support from photographer Serhii Korovainyi;
- join the three-day session (December 3-5, 2021) in Kyiv with the participation of Ukrainian and Danish photographers (all costs at the expense of the organizers).
For reference: Serhii Korovainyi is a documentary filmmaker working on the intersection of photography, video and virtual reality, a Fulbright Scholar (2017) and a graduate of the Master's program in Visual Communications at Syracuse University (New York, USA).
The artist became the second director of a documentary project in virtual reality about the most tragic events of the Revolution of Dignity – Aftermath VR: Euromaidan. Winner of Fresh Eyes 2020 from GUP Magazine.
Nikolai Linares is a Danish photojournalist who lives and works in Copenhagen, a graduate of the Danish School of Journalism, and the author of numerous projects for national and international publications. Winner of the award for "News Photo of the Year" from the Black Lives Matter demonstration.
